In regards to how these engines feel, they tend to loosen up a bit after break in. I test drove a 6cyl, just for fun, and liked it, but could only test drive an auto 4cyl and was not impressed. After driving my truck 7k it felt much better, when it was new I wasn't too happy, but now I dig it. What do you guys think, Is there a noticeable difference after a couple K, or just an idea?

There's definitely a difference. I am almost certain the ECU learns or switches over to a more aggressive map. With the LCE header on there, my ECT button is just gathering dust at this point.

I will probably fall to the siren song of a turbo at some point but not because of any perceived deficiency, just because I'm batshit and I miss that whoosh. ;)

my 2.7 auto double cab gets 23mpg all day and ive seen 27mpg on a regular basis on my 45 mile commute. I wouldn't trade for the v6 any day, the 2.7 is basically maintenance free and its an established motor with the average life expectancy of 220k.....sounds like a no brainer to me. Yea its slow as shit and your not gonna win any races let alone keep up with old ladies on the freeway but maybe its just me. Im very passionate about my truck.

Toyota made a bad move IMO by cutting the 5MT.

I agree, from an enthusiast perspective.

The other day I was at a frustration management therapy group, and I brought up how Toyota benched this configuration after an entire legacy was built on this very config. Literally nobody gave a shit. Even the guy still complaining about the ending of twin peaks got a round of applause. We are the only people who care. Thank god I bought one. Fuck.

I agree that the 2.7 is a great every day truck as long as you stay stock'ish. I have an 05 2.7 AC manual 4x4 and a 09 double cab long bed pre runner. They have both been great trucks. The 09 has a little over 200,000 and the 05 I'm at 135,000. Both are used for work. The 09 a little more and has pulled a boat for a little bit. I enjoy 2.7 manual more. Yeah the 4.0 is quicker but to me it's not that noticeable. I'm looking for a 1st gen tundra now to replace the 09 for towing a boat. I think the 4.7 is one of the best motors Toyota has made. My 98 landcruiser had 315000 miles on it when I sold it. Just gotta change those timing belts.

I just traded in a 2010 2.7 with 5 speed for a 2019 TRD v6 with 6 speed manual. 2.7 was a good daily driver, at trade in I had 211,000 miles on it. First clutch went 185,000 miles, replaced from wheel hub assemblies at 188,000 miles, and rebuilt and rebalanced the driveshaft at 192,000. Outside of that it was a great truck as long as I didn’t tow anything over 1 ton.

I'm good, i want a vehicle that a five foot two Rachel can drive. I like em short so I can save money on food and clothing. I did have to sacrifice the idea of ever having a hood scoop.

Just traded in my 2.7 with 211,000 miles with lifetime MPG at 22.37 MPG. My new TRD with v6 at 5,200 miles is averaging 19.42 MPG

You must not have kids, height does not correlate with cost of clothing.

Edit: god damnit I fell into another one!

Good lord guys...both engines are slow...one is a piece of shit and slow. Move on

If your not keeping the truck 200,000 plus miles it doesn’t matter anyways.

I think the current Dodge Challenger still fits the bill of an American Muscle Car, its based on an Intermediate Platform, 2 Doors, and available with a large V8 and Manual Transmission.

Anyone remember how you could get the 1st Gen Tundra in a regular cab/8ft bed with the 4.0 and the 6MT. They did the same thing to that as the venerable 2.7/5MT.
