Hey there! I just got a black Tacoma TRD Pro an hour ago. I am wanting to changing the high beam and low beam bulbs to LED. Please tell me the best bulb, and how to install them thanks.
Also, please tell if it will be compatible with my auto high beam assist.

Use HID instead of LED, better results

LED lights produce a different light than Halogen. Different intensity, you need a different focus, etc. HID has a light that’s more similar to halogen that will give you better projection and throw distance. I had LEDs in my stock housings and they didn’t throw light very far. And the high beams were useless, the LEDs turned them into glorified fog lights with a lot of spread but no distance

I had HIDs installed. They were insanely bright, but with a very sharp cutoff and an annoying blue tinted line at the top of the beam pattern.

Both bulbs failed within about 20 minutes of each other after about a year, and very limited use, since I mainly ride my motorcycle when it's above freezing.
That soured me on HIDs, even though I had an HID bulb in my motorcycle that was still going strong after four years.

I installed Supernova V4 LEDs, and so far I like them. They are nowhere near as bright as the HIDs, but the beam pattern is much nicer. The throw down the road is almost identical to the stock bulbs, so there is no annoying blue line, or sharp cutoff, and the color of the light is nice. The install was also a piece of cake compared to the HIDs.

Time will tell how long they last.

Most all my lighting threads are pinned. I’m sure the next one will be too.

H11 low beam, H9 high beam. If using LEDs they are usually interchangeable.

As a light guru, which LED bulbs would you recommend for the brake lights/rear turn signals? While we’re on the topic of converting to LED

An important distinction is that brakes and signal lights are communication lights, not lights to illuminate the roadway. What you don’t want is brake/signal lights that are crazy bright like some LED companies promote. The goal isn’t to blind others with your brakes/signals, it is to let them know your intentions. See post #196 below of how some go about these communication lights the wrong way:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-high-power-leds.474996/page-10#post-18843576

If wanting to switch to LED brake and turn signals I would go with a world leading name brand manufacture like Philips. I mean a true Philips brand product. They utilize a design that faces into the reflector assembly for more uniform output that is a similar light pattern to stock. Projecting light isn’t the intention here, which is what outward facing LEDs do, it is to illuminate the housing to communicate your intention, which what a reflector facing LED does better. Their output level is similar to stock, which is a good thing for this purpose. The Philips brake/signal LEDs are designed to be SAE compliant and are street legal. Few LED companies pay that much attention to detail. They warranty their LEDs for 12 years. Many LED companies will warranty LEDs for a long time to help sales, but it is not uncommon to have the products fail far before the warranty period. I wouldn’t expect that from the worlds leading LED lighting manufacture. Sure you can send the products back for warranty but being the OEM long life incandescent bulbs should easily last 5+ years, having a more expensive LED of similar output and performance fail early is really a downgrade. Something to think about for what you are trying to accomplish. Don’t forget if you replace both front and rear signals, the reduced current draw will likely cause hyper flash issues requiring resisters, which to me seams like it is more trouble than it is worth for LED signals. Since the Tacoma’s already come with LED brake lights in the tails, I personally just leave the rest of my signal lights stock. Going on 4 years and never replaced a bulb.
