But will Toyota? If not, why not just go aftermarket to satisfy neverending car play boner* with added wireless capability? I travel for work a bit and get to spend time in a lot of different rental cars. Every OEM vehicle I’ve been in with car play requires a cable.

*I don’t really care if my truck has car play. It would be nice, but I’m not going to trade my truck or drop $1000 for a new headunit and install. Other mods are more important to me personally.

Why don’t you just get a phone mirroring system and install it on your truck. Works great and I love it!

I hear were getting hover capability for the OR and pro and upgrade to unicornpower under the hood with the new turbo-electric atomic v8 engine and transmission delete

Edit, the electric motor doesn't actually use the cylinders, they just add them so they can put a v8 emblem on the tailgate

Lol so true. I would love a CarPlay headunit in my Tacoma but it should be wireless . The current one is meh at best.

I have a CarPlay HU in my C5.

I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. I love that you can get Waze through the screen and it’s got really good messaging integration.

However, it killed the sound quality in the car. I don’t know how it would impact an OEM setup, but having a 5 channel amp and a dedicated 10” subwoofer, I lost nearly all the bass I had and had to change a ton of settings to get some of it back.

That’s exactly why I like the mirroring system. You can get anything you want and have all of that. I use waze whenever I need navigation. When I lived on the east coast, I used it all the time for traffic and planning drives. I think it’s like $200 or something.

I probably only get cell service in about 60% of the roads I drive so I rarely pair my phone to the truck so I doubt ACP would benefit me.

I must be one of the lucky 2016 Taco owners. No problems from my 4x4 Sport.

I had CarPlay in my 2017 Silverado, was very excited that I had it even though it wasn’t listed and I didn’t find out till the salesman was going over everything after I bought it. I ended up using it maybe twice. Now if it is wireless I’m interested but not trading for that as my 2018 is paid in full and I’m not interested in any vehicle payments at 50 yo.

@viking15 I miss Apple CarPlay in my previous Honda Civics. It kept me from using my phone as frequently while driving. Toyota is so darn stubborn at times, and the lack of availability of CarPlay is just one instance.

No not really. If the 2020 has matured into a much finer truck than the 2016 I would highly consider. If apple car play is the only update I would not do a trade in
