I just caught db of a new law in Cali. $1000 fine for an exhaust. I do not know all of the rules, but it did take effect on 1/1/19.

Wow. No good.

 

The State is saying effectively, that because you have an exhaust you will 100% be a street racer, and likely kill someone. Disregarding the fact that 95% of the population doesn't modify their cars and still does the exact same stuff. Guitly before innocent. Need to file a lawsuit and lobby against the local Gov. and that law.

Until then, drive quietly. Out of sight out of mind. Or move and don't ever allow laws like that to be voted in.

 

Wow! So according to Commifornia my lowered 4 cylinder Camry is a street racer because it has a cat back exhaust? Hmm I thought I had to hang a stupid stuffed animal or action figure from the rear tow point to show I wanted to street race. Or pretend I was a street racer.

 

I'm also disappointed in the blind sheep enforcing said laws.

 

Wait, aren’t you in Texas? If your vehicle is registered in Texas can they bust you for driving it in another state?

 

Not yet. I don't doubt they'd try on some level.

 

Write to your elected officials stating you are not in favor of that law. If enough do it, it might make a difference. That law is supposed to stop street racing and slide shows but from what I seen those were mostly performed (slideshows) takeovers were by stock vehicles by stupid people.

 

How'd you do this? I got a tb that I was considering porting myself.

I did mine with a dremel, sand paper, and metal polish.

 

I have a deeper voice than that driver.

Porting bits to get some material off. Then just dremel flapper sanders and dremel sanders. Hand sanded with 600 and 1000 and then mother’s. Aluminum polish.

Wow. So they're using federal grant money to enforce a new state law targeting modified exhaust. That's not cool.

 

People are freaking out about this. I did some research and honestly don’t think it is going to be that big of a deal. As long as your exhaust isn’t excessively loud then it should be fine. If your exhaust is too loud, it is no longer a fix it ticket. I also highly doubt this is going to change anything for the old honda and acuras with the loud fart cannons.

This is what the CA AB 1824 Section 4 says:

Existing law requires every motor vehicle subject to registration to be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise and prohibits a muffler or exhaust system from being equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device. Existing law further prohibits the modification of an exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner that will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle exceeds existing noise limits. This bill would include, among those conditions that are disqualifying, a violation of the above-described requirements related to mufflers and exhaust systems.

And the important part in all that is this:

We already have noise limits. This new law means if your vehicle is louder than those limits, it is no longer a fix it ticket, but a bend you over and give us a free band.

 

True. I see it as another excuse to stop motorists to collect state revenue.

 

They are filling their pockets faster than they can steal it, so they just find new ways to get more to line their pockets. Arizona is looking pretty nice right about now.
