Just did all 3 fluid changes today, and greased the drive shaft while I was under there. Front diff and t-case oils looked good and clear still, but the rear diff was pretty black and soupy. Now they’re all fresh and ready for winter.

Fun Fact: a 15/16” socket will work perfectly if you don’t have a 24mm.

Did my transfer case and rear end awhile ago, finally got around today to do the front differential, a little PB Blaster, and the plugs came right out, refilled with Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90, piece of cake, thanks to the pics from the original poster. Now it’s Miller time !!

Edit: Just realized I’m posting in 2nd gen forum, but I think it’s probably just as relevant.

I did mine today for first time at 45k. Front had a bunch of sludge and was really black. Rear and transfer case were just cloudy.

    This is the final mix.

Did all three this weekend 185k. Bought all six plugs and gaskets new for $35 - northeast salt winters! So glad I did, both front diff plugs stripped and rear diff fill plug seized even after soaking with PB Blaster overnight. Used cold chisel and 5lb hammer on plug edges to turn and remove. Fluids all looked good with no metal on magnets. Refilled with Valvoline 75w90 conventional and Lube Gard LSD Additive in rear. Also hit all axle grease points while under. Thank You All for the posts, unbelievably helpful!

I did my tranny, transfer case and both diffs last weekend with Redline MT90 and Redline 75W90. My truck only has 20,400 miles, but it’s Five years old. Everything went smooth. It might be my imagination, but the shift to second gear seems smoother.

    better suspension....
First time doing this today - I managed to get about 0.9-1 quart of oil into the transfer case before the fresh oil was coming out of the fill hole. Anyone else had similar issues with the transfer case taking less oil than it's supposed to?

Welp. Attempted to change all the gear oils for my taco. Rear diff went exceptionally well. Had 2x 12mm bolts KIA in the process of removing the front diff skid plate, only to find out I didn't have a 10mm hex bolt to change the front diff oils. The T-case oil was almost as a transparent as the Mobil-1 gear oil I just bought (which I found to be odd, considering the last time it was changed was >30k miles ago and drove quite a bit of 4H on trails).

I'll have to drill out the rest of those bolt and install new ones.

Other than obliterating my skid plate bolt, I found this write up to be extremely helpful. Thanks, OP!

I would use amsoil or redline in the diffs, ravenol 75w in the transfer case. the toyota transfer case oil is extremely expensive and damn hard to get. I would not change that one for any other. toyota says 75w because toyota started using borg warner parts for the transfer case at least for 2015 and newer. I'll change the back diff first and see how things are and then change the other 2. I never changed the diffs or the transfer case oils in my 97 4runner with 205k miles on it and I beat the hell out of it and never had to fix anything.

Just changed rear differential oil - it didn’t look too bad - kind of light brown. Approx 85k miles. Filled it with Redline 75w-85. Removed the spare tire to wash - it was super dirty. A plenty of room without a spare tire there.
