Suspension upgrade noob... having steel bumper installed, and want a moderate lift - some questions

My truck is a 2011 access cab with a canopy, having a Demello 3 hoop bumper installed, it's probably 120 lbs.

I'd like to go for a moderate lift, probably 2". Stock shocks + springs in the front, and a recently replaced set of Toyota leafs in the back (recall), and stock shocks. I almost never go off road, unless it's for camping, and in those cases it's logging roads.

I'm leaning toward OME springs + shocks in the front, but have some questions about options:

A lot of people seem to rave about Billsteins (usually 5100's), but I'm wondering do they pair well with OME springs?

How does the Toytec and Icon stuff stack up against Billstein and OME?

 

The OME and Bilstien IMO are very similar in what they are and what they do. If it were me, I'd go with the bilstiens.

Toytec and Icon are a different league of suspension. Depending on the toytec kit it's a good bridge between the OME and the Icon's. Icons are more comparable to kings, fox's and other coil over brands.

If they were cars. The OME/bilstiens would be a Camry, reliable comfortable but nothing you want to brag about to your friends. Toytec would be Like a subura WRX, cool car but at some point you have to grow up and get a big boy car. Icon/king/fox are like a corvette you are now full blown into your midlife crisis and chics will throw them selves at you on the trail. Long travel is like a Harley, you can be fat, ugly and horribly disfigured but you are still the coolest kid on the block.

What springs would be appropriate with the Billstien 5100's?

 

You could do stock or maybe a icon expansion 3 leaf pack. either would work.

I'm going to assume you mean OME springs. I'd go with mediums, anything more and it will ride like a pogo stick. Our bumpers aren't that heavy and the majority of the weight is kept closer to the front axle so the leverage effect is lessened.

 

A different opinion here..

I wouldn't say they pair well. It is true you can run them with OME coils, but it is not recommended to run OME coils on 5100's at anything other than the lowest notch/setting. Especially 886 coils if you are running heavy weight up front. For 886's I would recommend springing for OME shocks. The billies will wear faster and ultimately fail in that configuration.

OME coils and shocks are meant and designed to work together.

Bilsteins are good if cost is a concern. They are cost effective.

All that being said, I currently run OME in the front and Bilsteins in the rear..for now...

Jason Demello, what halogen fog lamps are recommended with your bumpers? That's the last Missi g piece before installation.

 

We use and recommend Baja designs. Other 3-4in lights can fit but we like baja designs.
