I'm not preheating or removing the hub assembly. Stitch weld the gussets in and be done.

If I think gussets are worth it, that's another question.

My buddy was just out in Anza Borrego and hit a good sized rut cruising through the desert at like 35mph and bent his spindle.

I didn’t preheat mine and they’re totally fine. I definitely think they’re worth it though for sure

For second gens the bearing is an assembly held on with 4 bolts, so I’ll definitely be removing it to weld. I’m still a beginner so welding on a table will definitely be easier than on the truck.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it! That’s kinda the direction I’m leaning but I’m unsure, we’ll see.

Edit: yeah my buddy was trying to climb a rock and hit it with a little too much skinny pedal. Not even that much, but juuust enough to tweak his spindle. I’d rather have them for peace of mind.

Good deal. I worry about the cats that think that now they have gussets, they can jump their truck at will.

Oh lawd no hahaha my truck is a rock crawler. I just didn’t realize the gussets were so cheap ($60) so it certainly won’t hurt to add them.

Does the house have an electric dryer near the garage? Make an extension cord to the welder.

I think my guy charged me $30 extra to swap out one of mine that was out of date last time. There is a guy on craigslist in my area that works with gas suppliers. He will meet me at a gas station on weekends and bring me full bottles. Either swap, or purchase. It's a few extra bucks, but I don't have to deal with the hassle of the gas companies myself, and I don't have to do it between 9 and 5. Worth a check to see if you have something local like that.

$25 every 10 years to hydro test "your" bottle. I don't keep the same bottle, but I get charged that fee at the 10 year mark.

It tends to vary .the cost of hydro testing I have heard walk ins Charged as much as $75.00

Now days most cylinders have stickers with who they belong to.

because so many cylinders with the engraved info have been through so many mergers and buyouts at least in my neck of the woods.

If the distributor never sold that size cylinder good bet it fell off the truck

Buying used cylinders for the most comes down to how well you know the distributor if they swap them .

Then some can be real finicky about only filling customer owned cylinders if your not at the fill plant location could take about 3 weeks till they come back or longer.

This is what I see in my part of the country

Then any of this can change at any time
