True, the gauge cluster looked infinitely better on the Tacoma. But I always attributed it to the fact my truck was 3 years newer...

the 2019 T4R is still the same gauge cluster. I noticed that when we tinted the one I posted earlier. that was truly the only thing I didn't like about it. I have never been a fan of that blue that's on it. but with the black badges and wheels the blue looked great.

great, now I want a T4R again. oh well, guess I will have to drive my Taco to work and just enjoy it for now.

For me it was the MT stick shifter. If the T4R came with a stick like the Taco, I'd be hard pressed not to trade

I would've went with a 2018 4Runner Off Road if it had a manual option. Sadly it did not so I went with the Tacoma.

Also Have both here, I really like driving my truck but I love driving the T4R. The interior is nice and good quality materials, the good workmanship is definitely there, the cluster and infotainment however everyone has made that point clear that it needs an update ASAP. Wife is currently waiting to hopefully trade up to the 6th gen T4R whenever that may be and if the looks and quality is still there.

thanks for your input guys. Keep it coming. It’s funny, a lot of your comments are reasons why I want to switch back. I felt like my old Tacoma was so much more fun to drive than the 4Runner. I know the new engine and trans have their issues, I guess I just really need to go play with one for a while before I make a decision (even though I kinda have). I feel like no matter what, I’ll want the Tacoma and the 4Runner to jump back and forth between.

The Corollas rear seat is not as cramped as you may assume as it has more legroom back there than many larger cars. It has over 41" of rear legroom which is tremendous for a compact car.

Thats odd, the 4Runner has a way nicer interior than a Tacoma, including the instrument cluster...

Sure the dot matrix is outdated compared to the Tacoma's LCD, but the actual guages themselves look way better.

The grass is always greener! Both are great vehicles and it’s really just choosing to be satisfied with whatever direction you go. I have loved the 4Runner since the second I first drove it while the Tacoma I have been very back and forth about.

If you dont mind me asking are the kids still in boosters or car seats ? How much better is the second row in the T4R? Do they still have a third row option?

The third row is still available but really is only useful for small children. I sat back there and my head was on the ceiling unless I slouched.

Just one kid in a rear facing and we have another baby due in June so will need room for two car seats. The second row in the 4Runner is much larger than the Tacoma. No way I would even try two rear facing in the Tacoma’s back seat. I have the Off Road so no third row.

I just did a quick search and found a few used 7 passenegrs. I'm surprised ! I thought it they were still made they would be rare. I have 1 forward facing and 1 rear facing at the moment. The taco is just big enough. And I mean just big enough lol.

I honestly didn't pay much attention to the actual dial gauges. wish I would have now. but the DM just doesn't do it for me on that nice of a vehicle.

I went from a ‘13 Tacoma sport to a ‘17 T4R off road premium. My reason was the heated leather. I instantly missed the manual transmission and I disliked the soft suspension and brake dive in the runner. Sure, 6112’s/5160’s would’ve cured that problem. The 4Runner was totaled two weeks ago and I got a new Tacoma sport with the MT. So far I’m happy and I’ll just add clazzios and seat heaters. The runner was really nice, but honestly, I didn’t need half the frills it came with. If you need lots of seating, the T4R certainly beats the Tacoma. Both are great IMO.

I like the look of the 4R interior. It doesn't try to be anything it's not. It is just a body on frame SUV. A really really good one.

Not to disparage anyone's choices, because it really is your own choice what you like in a vehicle, but...

For me I like riding in the Tacoma, I like the idea of the truck. The styling and interior are a bit more refined than one might expect in a functional vehicle. It does what it's supposed to and a bit more. It's not as luxurious as my former Avalanche, but it's not huge and super expensive either. I find the interior design and tech more than adequate.

Now the 4Runner...My BIL has a new 4R. The ride was very rough from the passenger side, but then we were driving on gravel and dirt roads for quite awhile. The infotainment components just looked so outdated that it turned me off. Yes, not important to some, I understand. But to me...there's a certain level of stylishness and tech I expect in a new vehicle.

My expectations of an SUV are probably colored by previously having owned a BMW X3. The refinement of the 4R is below that, and the ride quality is not great. I would expect that in a truck, but in an SUV? Yes I understand it's body on frame and has more off-road capability than most SUV's, but that's not so important to me.

If I went with a truck I'd go with the Tacoma in a heartbeat over any competitors. For an SUV there are so many other options out there--the new Passport for instance.

I traded a 2017 4runner TRDPro for a 2019 Tacoma TRDPro and a little angry at myself for doing so. The drivetrain including brakes are far superior than Tacoma, build quality better and just overall more confident in the capabilities of the 4Runner vs. the Tacoma. Looking maybe to go back to one but the wife will kill me.

What did you like more in the Tacoma than the 4R and other way around as well? I currently own a 2017 4R TRD Pro thinking about switching to Taco TRD Pro...
