Does anyone have any pictures of high clearance rear bumpers with the spare in its stock location? I've damaged my bumper and lower rocker panel behind the rear wheel, so something like a CBI T3 HC bumper is a no brainer—but, I don't like the idea of opening a swing arm every time I want to get into my bed (multiple times a day), not to mention the extra weight and backup cam relo. If I'm hitting the trail and need extra clearance I'll probably just toss the spare in the bed, but factory location is best for daily driving and using a truck like a truck. Current tire size is 265/75r16, but I'm going 255/85r16 when those wear out.

    Cheers!

Pictures exist, but anybody who gets a high clearance and leaves the spare tire is foolish.

If you need clearance, you can’t have the tire there. So if you’re not moving the tire but getting a high clearance bumper, all you’re doing is spending money for nothing.

If you’re going to move the spare for off-roading days then it makes more sense, but as a full time home.. I dunno. Seems like a half thought out idea.

    I did.

The pic of a high clearance with a spare looks the same as the pic he posted (of a high clearance with a spare).

I totally agree, but fixing the body damage at a shop + bumper cover, etc and paint is going to cost more than the ≈1300 the CBI HC bumper costs. Maybe relocating the tire to the bed out of the way is a better solution...

    Read his other posts.

He knows what I’m talking about, and understand my point when you don’t.

I have a few not so great pics of mine with factory spare prior to installing my swing arm, to be honest a swingout isn’t really a good fit for me due to hauling stuff often. It added probably 100lbs on the rear, but in all reality it’s not too big of a job to remove if needed just one bolt and unplug the camera.

What camera relocation kit did you use for the single swing out @Hstone556 ?

My swingout had a bracket for the camera to mount, I bought a factory back up camera harness online for like $30 and then used that to extend the factory harness.

Well, most people don’t drag their spare tire when off-roading and having it there doesn’t negate the high clearance. Your departure angle still improves immensely. Most people get the swing out because they can either run a 6th tire or secure a larger tire that won’t fit easily. The spare tire location is moved to support other things like air and water tanks as well. It’s a great way to save space.

If you get a HC rear, get the swingout and mount the spare there. Problem solved.

Also chop the exhaust... All of the trucks with HC rears on this thread have their exhaust still sitting way low behind the wheel. That's going to get torn off on the trail if you ever actually use that rear bumper on the passenger side. I chopped mine just after the axle.

Here's a pic of the rear when I was chopping the exhaust before I took off the factory spare... Not sure if this helps:

    CHOP THAT EXHAUST!!!

Sorry to bring back an old thread.

Can someone who has the CBI High Clearance rear bumper take a measurement from the back of the differential to the back of the tow hitch please?

I ordered this bumper and plan on putting my spare tire in the stock location for camping trips and taking it out for 4 wheeling trips. I want to know what size spare tire I can fit underneath. Thank you.
