Lol, soft shackles have a lifespan vs bow shackles that can last forever if you don't overload them.

Light snow, they slip and projectile in a very deep snow. Ask me how I know.

Sand they do fine, but you need to try REALLY hard to get stuck in the sand if you have ATRAC or Mall Control systems.

Just use your floor mats, they work great in any terrain.

I again think you are using them wrong.

Did you have a shovel and properly position the boards under the wheels?

This winter I have purposely got myself stuck in 2 different situations that the boards just popped me right out.

1.) I ran directly into a snow bank and high centered on it, trying to access a trail. My front wheels where over the far side of the bank, my rear wheels on the road almost still. Totally frame high centered. Few minutes with the shovel and boards properly positioned. Right out.

2.) I drove into 3 feet of deep snow and pushed the skinny peddle until I saw sand. Then got the boards and shovel and again, with in a few minutes popped right out.

Currently running smitty x20 with 10k lbs capacity and synthetic line. I like it a lot and has yet to fail on me. Plus if it snaps is much safer than SWR

Thoughts about a front hitch for a recovery point/lift point?

Yes, I know what you are talking, done it plenty of times, but the snow you are showing is nowhere deep compare to the image below lol.:deadhorse:
Anyways, if it works for you - good to know:thumbsup:.

You can bolt and then weld around like this, quick and easy solution.

I’d do that but I don’t trust my welds at all lol. Trying to find a reasonably priced recovery point for a first gen and can’t.

The welds are there just to lessen the stress on bolts. I think 1st gens have same location that you can bolt on hook to?

    http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/factory-recovery-replacement/

You can also just install front hitch, but you will loose ground clearance and I don't know if anyone makes high clearance hitch for 1st gens. @llamasmurf has mine and it has 2 tow points and a hitch.

Thought you meant I fab something like that up myself. Not sure if the bolts on 1st gen line up with 2nd or 3rd Gen. I’ve got the stock one bec I have an Off Road, just don’t know how much I trust that either.

You can make one too, 3/8 piece, 90 degree bend and cut out hole for a bow shackle. :welder:

If it's an actual hook (not a transportation point) it will do you fine, we will rip your frame off before that hook comes off

Here are some pics from my install, you can see what it bolts to in them.

You remove the 2 aluminum blocks with studs on them, and replace with a few bolts.

Dang thats beefy. Maybe I'll get one of my welder buddies to fab something up like that for me. I don't have the skills required but I'd prefer that over rather that than just a hook.

Nice part of that is if you get a hitch winch cradle you can put winch on and switch from front to back

Well since my diff lock actuator took a poo I was gonna go to a parts yard in Belleville but I called and they said the part was the front actuator for 4x4, despite what the website said... Couldn’t find another one close.

Swallowed my pride and bought a new AISIN OEM spec SAT-008 one off eBay :( cost me 500 bones and I have to go over the border to get it from my P.O.

Hopefully no import charges ;) and hopefully my fluid doesn’t leak out of the shaft hole that the shaft is still rust welded into for the next week.
