Dealers are scumbags, I had a dealer tell me I still had to fill out Toyota financial credit application even though I was paying with a cashiers check for the vehicle.

They told me the same thing when I had prearranged financing secured... said it was for identification verification. I called BS as the real reason was to see if they could beat my interest rate and make a few more bucks on the sale.

Well that is reassuring. Thanks for looking it up. I'll have to find that link so I can check again in the future.

We did the Sam's Club version of this auto buying thing. It was completely worthless and no one honored it whatsoever. They might go through the pretense of giving you the auto program price but then they just completely screw you over on your trade-in. So the end result it's just you playing a stupid game with these dealerships like you always have to do. Several dealerships just flat ignored the Sam's Club thing altogether.

A guy at my work drove home in his new Toyota Tacoma. He could not figure out how to put it in four-wheel drive so he drove back to the dealership. It was a two-wheel drive. Of course the last time this guy was sober was 1975 so...shrug.

Opinions of Toyota fanboys aside, all dealerships suck. I've had similar experiences buying many new cars, and when I get the bad vibes, I just leave (like you did). And they always chase you out because it's part of their act. But there's always a dealership that isn't playing games (correction; you can jump dealerships until you find one that isn't playing a game with you at that moment!).

With every new car I've ever purchased, I bought it because the salesman didn't draw 4 boxes on a sheet of scratch paper.

Smh, way too much time wasted with them. It doesn't take much to do a little research on your vehicle of choice with whatever accessories you want. I bought mines over the phone and I was pretty blunt about it. I called, and I told them exactly everything I wanted, I then told them exactly what I was going to pay OTD. A few minutes later I got a call saying that they could.

If the dealership feels like they can make a few extra dollars on you they will try their best to do so. Any car buyer spending hours on a car lot is definitely doing something wrong.
