3rd Gen Taillight Chrome Delete

I went with the red color

 

I ended up going with red. Can’t wait to get them.

 

So this is what we have come to....

People really hate chrome haha.

 

Did you dip the bumper? I am looking to do that ASAP

 

I did indeed. I would recommend not removing the caps as a buddy of mine did and the clips behind broke and it’s lose as hell now. I was able to do it easily with some tape and plastic bags. Once I let it cure for a couple days I sprayed it with aerospace 303 and it gets rid of that grippy texture and makes it hold up like a champ. It’s been a year almost now and looks the same as day 1.

These go on the outside? So it wouldn’t work on Limited tails that are clear housing with chrome deep inside? At the time I thought my only option was TRD PRO tails...which I put on already but this infor would be good to know!

Is that vinyl I see on the entire bottom of your tailgate around the "TACOMA" portion? I really like that negative-space effect on the lettering. How did you do it?

 

I think he wrapped it...I have had other people put vinyl lettering into the tacoma, plasti dip it, then take out the lettering to get a similar effect.

you do have to mask off the tailgate line tho

 

I may have to talk to my wrap/tint guy about this. I think it looks fantastic!

 

hey! thanks man! i did this back when nobody is selling a pre-cut vinyl to wrap that part of the tailgate so what i did was mask the lines carefully then plastidip it black. you have to do it in a timely manner coz if you wait too long for the plastidip to dry, it will stick to the tape when you remove the mask. so make sure you cover everything with a thick layer of plstidip then remove the mask when its still a bit wet so the lines will be sharp. with regards to the TACOMA part, i just purchased a white TACOMA vinyl and positioned them using the wet install technique. i spent about $10 for the white TACOMA vinyl and a can of plastidip is less than $10. way cheaper compared to wrapping them for at least $100-$150..

Dude the whole look of your tailgate with the TRD Sport emblem and the black bottom half is freaking sweet! I have the Tacoma inlays in black, but I may need to try this look out. Did you use vinyl or PD?

 

thanks!! i plastidipped it. this was back when nobody is selling the vinyl specifically for that area of the lower tailgate yet. now i think there are several people who sell vinyl like that. still, i like the fact that i did them myself and was able to pull it off neatly.. and the lines are crisp.. lol
