Happy New Year! Everyone. Fell asleep watching Street Outlaws Bristol, went to bed quarter to midnight. No big deal.

We're taking down the tree and decorations. It's always more fun setting up than taking down & packing away.

As others have said …. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you.

When I was 40+ I often wondered if I would make it to 2010. Well, I did. Now I'm wondering if I'll make it to 2030. Time will tell.

    Tex

Happy New Year to all. Spent yesterday driving back home from Michigan. My son wanted to take his, new to him, 2013 Ford 150 and I have to say it is a comfortable truck.

    H A P P Y N E W Y E A R!!!!! Sixties, wannabes, and Susan(? need more info ?).

We're back from our trip north to VT for a New Year's Eve wedding. Bride was resplendent in her blue hair and strapless gown (no, really, she was radiant). Groom was handsomely sturdy in his tux. They took turns holding their 1-year-old son during the ceremony. Afterwards there was quite the shindig! I have nothing but high hopes for this union; two really good people, dedicated to one another. I can't wait for their next party! :)

I guess this is the new normal. I have a whole slew of friends and family members who have had children well before tying the knot. In fact the fellow we just watched walk down the aisle has an unmarried sister with two kids and a really great live-in father.

I don't quite understand it to be honest. To me it seems like a hand being put on the "hold on there!" button by the guy. As in, "Hold on there! Let's just see about this whole raising-a-kid thing before I decide I want to commit to it." But then I'm a guy, and it could just as easily be the woman doing the "hold on there!" thing to make sure her baby is going to have a daddy he/she can grow up with.

Ah well. Kids these days, blah blah yada yada. This I know: that baby and his parents will have all the love they need to do whatever it is they decide to do. Lots of us old farts around making sure of that! ;)

Dave: I have 2 really good friends, since high school, that did not get married for the longest time for income tax purposes. Both had professional careers and made decent salaries. Sometimes there is a reason for not marrying but overall I think a couple should tie the knot. I am too old fashioned on a lot of subjects.

Same here. There are a few legal advantages to marrying--inheritance issues, visitation rights in case of hospitalization, +??

My wife & I did the Ancestry.com test kits before Christmas. They found a first cousin who has been searching for her history since her adoptive parents died.

My DNA & hers were a strong match. It seems that my mother's sister gave a child up for adoption in 1963 in Hamilton, Ontario.
We were connected by email through the site & I told her to call me.

We talked for over an hour. I tried to fill her in on some medical histories and family lore. She had done extensive research on her birth mother & our shared grandparents. My aunt, who is now 85, denies she is the mother.

My mother, 91 years old, also gave a child up for adoption in 1960. My newly found cousin had found my long lost sister in her research & they visited each other over Christmas. They are in the same town.

I wasn't looking for any new relatives but here they are. I will share a 5 generation family photo with them and my grandfather's WWI US Army history. And anything else that they may need (except money).

    Funny how life works.

All kinds of info on my dads side. All the way back to the mid 1800's! That was awesome reading about family members and where they lived.

Out getting stuck in the snow with some friends for two hours before we were able to snow shoe over 10 miles the last couple days, bagging a lake at 8400'. Camping in the backcountry for two nights. Basecamp was maybe under two miles in on Thursday, leaving our rigs about 2PM, out today, Saturday. Only 18 or 19F Friday morning, beat the forecasted storm out today.

70 mile stretch of I-80 near Lake Tahoe here in Kalifornia was closed since yesterday, I see just reopened 10 minutes ago. People scrambled to get motel rooms last night I guess per the news. I don't feel sorry for people who traveled to go skiing or to visit Reno/Tahoe area coming up east bound from Kalifornia when they had many days notice of this big storm. It started snowing on my trip back home on Saturday around midday. 10" to 12" of snow here, has settled good with the light rain overnight on it. Gotta buy a new snow shovel, broke my Melnor one going back to the early 80's.

    Afternoon all:
:bananadance: :yay: Shot a buck today with the flintlock, miracles do happen!
Of course it had to be a buck that lost it's horns so it gets tagged as a doe, totally legal and I still have my backtag which I can shoot a buck or doe with during flintlock only. Now I need to be the dog and get one to my buddy, at least we have meat that equals one deer each and anything else is a bonus.

Yea, until the smoke screen clears it's more or less :fingerscrossed: and  !
Last time after the smoke cleared, the deer was still standing there looking at me. :facepalm:It takes awhile to get reloaded, by that time they are long gone!
I know I shot it, I'll be the only one cleaning the gun, I never leave black powder fouling in overnight and they are a PITB to clean properly.
