I know it was at least 1.3 cause it wouldn't even boot at 1.25

Higher than 1.3 volts will start to shorten lifespan on anything based off Sandybridge architecture (that's everything since 2009ish.) That being said you could run 1.35 volts for a while fine. It's not just heat that's the issue. It's like anything else electronic. Feed it a little more voltage and you get a little more bang for buck but it'll start to wear it out faster.

That being said I know Intel got caught listing 1.375 volts on Haswell as the maximum functional voltage. However maximum functional voltage just means the point where you start to see sever drop offs in lifespan. I know on some OC forums a poster was running around with the 1.55 volts number Intel lists as the absolute maximum, but absolute simply means more than that and the chip will just fry immediately lol.

On my last AMD build, I was trying to optimize the OC. Accidentally gave it way too much voltage. Chip survived, mainboard didn't.

Yeah a guy on my floor in res my first year of university accidentally fed a Sempron 2.5 volts lol, ded. IIRC the chip was designed for 1.6ish volts and he was actually trying to downclock it.

I was able to survive P95 for 8 hours on 1.255v @ 4.7GHz. Going through old forum posts, looks like I had tried for 4.9GHz up to 1.375v without success.

    Yeah.
Cool, I'll take a look and PM you with what I find. I think I might have a 6700K as well, but that's LGA 1151.

Got my dads PC put together (somewhat) with a mix mash of both my components and his.
I didn’t realize that the Dell Mobo would have some many proprietary connections so we turn it on with a power button inside the case for now, and we get a message about front I/O failure and rear fan failure on startup but other than that it works well.

Rx580 benchmarks way better than my 1050TI, I’ll be excited to try it with the I7 that’s coming in and not my I5.

I’m considering asking him to spend the money on a motherboard so he has both better expandability down the road and also a cleaner interface (no splicing harnesses), but I believe we would also have to drop $100 on a copy of windows unless we can use the product key on the PC that we are robbing parts from.

Yes you would need a new copy of Win 10. There is a way to move a license once but I think it only applies to non OEM copies.

I don't like dealing with OEM machines because of the weird hardware configurations.

His PC kept getting nicer and nicer as we ordered parts.
It started out conceptually the same as mine, dell optiplex 7010 MT with an I5, 16 gigs of ram, 1050TI, and maybe add an SSD.
Then it became all the above but with an I7.
And then it became all the above with an RX580 instead of the 1050TI. The RX580 required a new PSU and Case to fit it in.

In hindsight I should’ve just started from scratch.

I lol’d at the 7920x. That’s just burning money even back when he built it. I don't think there is a single positive review of that chip out there now.

^This, especially since you could of went AMD for the MB and CPU then had an upgrade path for a few years since AMD doesn't go through sockets/compatibility as fast as Intel.

When I build another for myself (and retire mine to a media center type device) I’ll be going with AMD even though I’m partial to Intel.
For Dad he really didn’t need anything more than the I5 and 1050TI, all he does are flight simulators, and he’s only in state to use it a few months of the year, but he was looking at parts and couldn’t be talked out of paying $60 more for the I7 and 580, if nothing else it’ll put off an upgrade for another 2-3 years past the I5 and 1050TI.

What is this connector? (Sorry for the terrible quality)
If possible I need a 90* low profile elbow for this.

There is nothing wrong with going Intel. You pay a bit more with Intel for what you get but as of this generation they still rule the per core speed world. AMD has a competitive chip again in the Ryzen series with serious hope of catching Intel in the next year. AMDs big benefit has always been in their upgrade path. You don't end up needing a new board every year if you always want the newest CPU.
