Don't even have a Taco yet and got 0 interest in the Ranger

Small fuel tanks, turbo engines, no manuals, been there already ('13 Escape Titanium, '16 auto Ecoboost 'Stang), won't do it ever again

My thoughts exactly. I was also surprised to see how much more narrow the Ranger is compared to the Tacoma. If Toyota would just put a little more effort into a few shortcomings of the truck it would be top pick for everyone I bet.

~50% larger NA V6. They should have run the 2.7 4cyl Tacoma as well.

That's always been how to compare Ecoboost engines. The 2.0 L Ecoboost performs like about a 3.0 L engine, the 2.3 L Ecoboost like a 3.5 L engine, the 2.7 L Ecoboost like a 5.4 L engine, and the 3.5 L Ecoboost bests a few 6.2 L engines. The 2.7 L Tacoma would look like a dog next to the Ranger IMHO.

Id consider one of those Ranger Raptors if it was like $15-20K. Those trucks seem even more toy like compared to the tacoma. It should be competing with RZRs and Hilux's not Tacomas.

I'll also be curious to see if truck sales start to disappear if the economy tanks in 2019 from the trade wars. $40K trucks are easy to buy when banks are lending at 4% over 84 months to everyone, but try 9% or not at all over longer terms and see how that does for Tacoma, Ranger, etc sales.

The 2.7EB is a straight up beast. Not to debate because I’m not much of a Ford fan but that little engine moves the huge F-150 from 0-60 in 5.6 to 5.7 seconds. I owned 2 5.4L Ford’s and wished they performed like the Baby Boost. The 2.7 as far as acceleration is on par with the 5.0 Coyote. It’s actually a marvel of an engine but I’ll stay put with my little Taco and not worry with those small engines that are less, far less, Eco than Boost. :(

Given that Fords 2.3 L Ecoboost seems to tow slightly, very slightly, better than the 3.5 L 2GR I'd say it's boosting just fine lol. That being said there isn't much reason to trade if you're happy. I think it's nuts that some guys are instigating that you should dump a perfectly good truck after a couple of years, unless it's super high mileage or just not working for you keep it. I have no plans on trading in my second gen and would happily mod out a third gen if I got it for free.

My wife currently has a 2.0 L Ecoboost. Trust me, that thing spanks the naturally aspirated CUVs in it's class. She really wanted the Rogue for the looks when we got it but the engine in it plus the CVT made for a horrible driving experience. Toyota goes with boosted engines in their Lexus lineup for a reason.

I've also owned all the engines you've listed in various work F150s. I currently have a Coyote 5.0 L. I agree that the 2.7 Ecoboost matches it and exceeds it when properly equipped with the right gearing.

That's Rangers are nice trucks. lf l was looking for a truck, l might even consider it as one option. There are lots of them down south, but all of them seem to be diesel powered. I'm not putting down any of the ecoboost power plants. But l like simpler engines in my trucks. It's a personal thing. Plus they seem to run forever.
I'm extremely happy with my Tacoma. If something happened and l had to buy a replacement. I'd look for another 2nd Gen.

Wow Ford should call you first! Offering to buy a better truck for half the price of a third gen. How generous of you.

I was thinking the same thing lol. That’s less than I paid for a FX4 Ranger when I was 18 :p. That was a great deal too.

I like you. You get it. Cheap gas too. And let's not forget about the worst people who can't actually afford the trucks - those who lease them (for personal use). Those cheap leases, aside from being for suckers who want to pay nothing but the highest depreciation on vehicles for the rest of their life, are propped up by the inflated high residuals.

People living 'way' beyond their means because of very low financing, and cheap gas.
People forgot what happened the last time gas spiked! Everything else followed. Yes there were many reasons. But people financed to death. Living paycheck to paycheck. Cheap gas. Buying things because they just gotta have it now!

What a mess many people create for themselves.

Cheap credit is inflating the prices of everything. I know it's arrogant but I'm getting tired of seeing people with half my income buy the same things as me. When you intentionally buy less house than you can afford and less truck than you can afford (according to the banks anyway), you really see what holds some people back - debt!

I kid you not, I was at McDonalds when a teenage employee walks in spinning his keys, clocks into work and starts bragging to all his coworkers about his new Tacoma he financed. What!?

And while normally I'm just content letting people do what they want to do with their lives, this affects me when it inflates the prices of the things I buy. Everyone else is willing to leverage themselves to the sky with debt.

That's how I buy vehicles (motorcycles usually) cheap a couple years down the road.

At some point it crashes and resets. Co worker did a 72 on his car the other day. It’s nice but at 60 with the driving we do It won’t be worth anything let alone 72.

I'll never forget the recession of 2008. I was in my early 20's and had just finished my enlistment in the Navy. Gas was over $4 a gallon. I was trying to find a job in the civilian sector when there was non. People losing jobs. Massive foreclosures and bankruptcies. Cash for clunkers, bank and auto bailouts. Auto sales tanked for all manufacturers. What a time to be alive!
