Just picked this guy up 2 days ago. Promptly threw my T4R trail wheels and Falken Wildpeaks on. Also removed the front lower valence. I have some rub I’ll be trying to remedy today. Probably de-badging/de-stickering today as well.

Congrats on the new truck! What tire size are you running?

Thanks! I’ve got 265/70-17 on these wheels. They were on my 4Runner off road premium which was totaled 2 weeks ago. Insurance let me keep the wheels and tires since the tires were brand new. I think they were only rubbing because I also added a set of spidertrax spacers. This morning I used a heat gun and reshaped the front mud flaps a bit and I’m clearing enough now for mall crawling. Once I lift, I should have plenty of room. Still researching what I want for suspension but hope to order this week.

Ah that makes sense. Just the perfect amount of poke IMO with the spacers. I was wondering about the rubbing since I currently have no clearance issues with 265/70r17 Duratracs on stock rims. I may have to use my heat gun though when I install these this week.

With some heat you can really flatten out the bumps on the flaps quite a bit. I left them on the truck so I didn’t change any of the mounting points. Looking forward to seeing your new wheels mounted!

Snapped a couple photos at the tire shop. Mudflaps rub at 3/4 turn, gonna try heat first then dremel.

    Whoa it looks fantastic!

I got the front end off the ground and removed the wheel and just heated the flap until it was nice and soft and shaped it with a heavy piece of steel by pushing it back as flat against the body of the truck as possible. Put about 50 miscellaneous miles on today with no rub. All street. I’d definitely rub off road, stuffed, at 3/4 turn. I’ll be lifting real soon and readdress clearances then, but for now I’m good to go for some serious mall crawling.

Great, thanks for the tip! Was wondering how to go about using the heat gun.

You could definitely do a full XPEL PPF wrap, it has great self healing properties but isn't going to be cheap.

Personally, I went the Ceramic Pro route with my Taco... I know ceramic coatings can be a controversial topic as they're viewed as snake oils by some. I'm not vouching for the entire industry of similar products but specifically Ceramic Pro, applied by a professional after a full paint correction. This is a combination of their 9H coating (this prevents the imperfections on your clear coat) plus the "light" coating (this is the hydrophobic layer). I had this applied in March 2018 when the truck was brand new and it still looks brand new, not a single swirl or imperfection in the paint and the black is as deep as it gets.

Does it still get dirty? Yes, of course, but my cleaning routine is nothing more than a two-bucket w/grit guard that's 15 min max then 5 minutes blowing off the excess water with a leaf blower once a month or so. No polishing, orbitals, pads, wasted saturday's, etc... I'd give it a close look, your miles may vary per installer but I've typically paid in the $1200 range per vehicle and factor it into the cost of owning a black vehicle. Speaking for myself, it's 100% worth it as I only buy black and had countless hours spent keeping up with detailing prior to this product entering the market. It's a lifesaver.
