    I was stupid had a used set of sliders welded onto my truck there still not fully welded on and I bet he would charge me more then he originally quoted me just because I went the cheap route. If he felt comfortable doing it I'd definitely have him weld the perches on my tundra axle.

    It could be the plunger in the starter. The clunk noise may have been it trying to plunge and now it may be stuck and engaged just enough to catch the very tips of the teeth on the flywheel.

    These starters are fairly easy to rebuild. The hard part on a 3.4L is getting it out.

    That bumper is sick! Any fabricating/modifications needed since it's for the 3rd gen 4Runner?

    @Digiratus

    Thanks guys appreciate the info. It sounds hideous lol. Got her in the garage now and the starter will be first place to dig. Im praying its not the flywheel. My only concern is clearing the turbo headers and the bucket gussets to get that thing out. It'll be an adventure as always.

    I took it out through the wheel well, had to unbolt the brake line.

    Replacing the starter was miserable for me.

    I read it again, that might be rough with the gussets.

    If it is the flywheel it might just be missing a couple of teeth, and will only cause problems when it stops with those teeth in the starter position. With the key off and the transmission in neutral, put a wrench on the crankshaft bolt and turn the motor a little. Then try to start it. If it works, you are probably missing teeth on the flywheel. Good news is you can still drive it, just every once in a while (at the most inconvenient times) it will end up with the missing teeth in the starter spot and you will have to get out your wrench. If teeth are only missing in one little spot it won't happen very often.

    When I was a kid we had a car like this. We drove it for years and didn't replace the flywheel until we put a new clutch in it. That car you could turn the engine by turning the fan, so no tools needed. Only happened every few weeks.

    Curious on the outcome of removing the starter (hope you figure out your issue too though). I've got bucket gussets too. My starter is still good but not sure for how much longer. Still the original, 17 yrs old, 220K mi.
