I didn’t know it was going to catch fire! It was at least maintaining somewhat smoking temps like it did last time. Then it got reeeeaaallly low and then lots of smoke came out. So I knew to turn it off and then went inside. Then I just hear “boom” and the lid popped open part way haha
No idea man. It’s still burning. I’m letting it die out. It shouldn’t have been an overloaded fire pot as I cleaned it all out this morning before turning it on

That’s my guess. But two in a row? That’s a bit wonky for such a supposedly reputable brand. Either way I will never buy a Traeger product in my lifetime again.
Interesting. Makes sense. I’m not sure if you can even get this model outside of Costco so you could very well be on to something.

Ok, I have nothing. That is just strange. I wonder if it's a bad batch of pellets? Maybe inclusions in them that aren't burning consistently?

If it flames out and restarts the pot gets overloaded. To me they should have some way to detect this condition. As I said in our other message I’ve never had this many issues with mine. Sounds like their quality may be going downhill again.

    THhe world may never know!
I didn’t. I had the lid closed and then a sudden outpour of heavy smoke. This happened once before while doing the brisket. The exact same thing actually minus the lid blowing. It probably over filled with pellets and then relit itself and caused a huge fire inside.

Wouldnt the pellets just be for smoke for the most part? I think those have an electric burner/element that heats it up.

The butt looks salvageable. How should I finish her off in the oven? IVe got internal temps of 129 currently. I was really hoping for some pulled pork tacos tonight

What makes me think that’s what it did it the TP probe dropping to 83. That means no new heat is coming out. If the auger keeps going it loads the pot back up and then when it starts the fire rod the whole pile of pellets eventually catches fire and causes that. When it’s in the initial startup there are very few pellets in the pot itself so the fire is pretty small and then it starts loading them up to adjust to temp.

Fire is out. There’s no way it was a grease fire as the butt isn’t hanging over the drip tray or even being close to hanging over. My guess is what @Kanyon71 said - firepot over flowed with pellets and it relit and just burned the living fuck out of everything

Should be able to wrap it in foil put it in the oven at about 250 in a pan and finish off the cook. It’s already got the smoke in it so you should be good.

From what I understand the heating element catches the pellets on fire to provide heat and smoke, then extinguishes
