Turbo vehicles don't have to sound like the Mazda video referenced, do they? If your point is that Mat can't possibly design for an unrealistic spec or the matrix of possible combinations of modifications.......point well made. And I think many/most people understand that there are, for example, more options for the placement of an air compressor or battery mods than there are for the placement of a turbo and associated plumbing.

But perhaps there is some room in the middle in terms of discussion? For example, Mat has been testing with bigger tires for quite some time. He reports that his 4.88 gears are on their way. He clearly is building up his truck as time goes on. Maybe next he'll want air, perhaps a winch in a slim line bumper, and perhaps more battery.

So what is wrong with making Mat aware of things (mods) that he MIGHT want to consider? Again, I think most of us agree: he will not be able to accommodate many mods; its just not possible. He has precious few options really. But he MIGHT be able to make some informed choices, or rather avoid making some uninformed choices that impact his sales. That is, *if* he has more, rather than less information. Or maybe he can't. Just a thought.

But discussion that doesn't include hyperbole ($1k, 400hp) might be useful. If not useful to Mat, than perhaps to potential buyers who have some of these mods. Lots of users have mods that live in the engine compartment and might be thinking a Turbo is the answer to their prayers.

But if it won't fit.......they need their expectations reset ASAP.

P.S. I'd *personally* be happy with a cost effective, quick spooling/low lag, minor whine, dependable forced induction that adds perhaps 20% increase in hp/torque over the current 278 horsepower and 265 torque. With a tuning emphasis on lower power band (as much as practical).

And YES, I realize that there appear to be potential customers concerned about ultimate 1/4 mile times. Coming from his background, and from some of the videos he has posted in the tune thread, it appears at present that Mat *might* be more "in tune" with this highly vocal group. We'll soon see.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time I am in the minority!

I'll update the first post with goals, expectations, etc.

One thing to set expectations right away, I can't build this kit around mods. People will have to mod around it if they want it.
The current location of the turbo is practically the only spot it will fit without mounting it so low that off roading may damage it.
Rear mount is is possible, mid mount is, but at great expense, lack of response where it's needed.

Would it be safe to assume at this point that anything mounted behind the bumper will not interfere with anything turbo/intercooler related? Or is it too early to determine that?

A lot of people have a light bar sitting between the bumper and grille and I have a winch sitting just a touch lower than that, in that spot.

I've had a turbo car before with custom piping, so I know that other piping and silicone coupler options are available and attainable, but the question will come up again at some point unless addressed, even if the answer is something as simple as "it's too early in the development process to say for sure"

It is not safe to assume anything until we show everyone exactly how the kit is setup

I know I’m late to this thread, but why not just go single? There are plenty of other platforms where people convert their factory biturbo setups to single for the purpose of simplicity and reliability.

This way, you usually get more power for less money. It also usually moves the turbo to a more accessible spot and there are tons of other options for turbos/flanges/sizes etc.

I just started following along, so sorry if this was already discussed.

I do like the idea of the use of a single turbo better. I guess there will be a little less plumbing involved with the single as apposed to a twin setup? I understand the exhaust routing will be a little harder to fab, but on the compressor side of the turbo it looks like it will be one outlet to the throttle body. I’m sure he will integrate everything to look as OEM as possible.

Mat has already stated that he's switched to single turbo.

Here’s an example from the Audi 2.7tt single turbo conversion. The turbos used to be down by the manifolds, and engine has to be removed to get to them. This kit moves the turbo right to the top. Obviously the tacoma has more room in the engine bay, so you can put it wherever you want
