Yes Nitro. I have a lot of weight and bigger tires so it's just lagging behind and had to step on the throttle more than usual with stock gears.

Deciding whether to regear with 4.88/ ARB lockers or to wait until the OV Turbos become available. Having some added low end torque & ponies will dramatically reduce need for new gears.

If you are in an Air Quality zone - emission requirement - you won't be adding the OVTune Turbo option. It does not meet requirements. If you are in an area that does not have emission requirements many of us will be soooo jealous!

I'm thinking about regearing to 4.88 within about a month on my rig with 33" tires. If I ever go bigger, it wouldn't be for at least 5 years.

My problem is that I get 17ish mpg in the city but only 13 mpg on the highway. I have a lot of drag from my aluminum cab/bed rack. I don't have much armor though, so I'm not too heavy. Steel bumper/winch and steel sliders are all I am planning on. Then again wheel/tire combo is 84lb each.

Am I correct to be planning on 4.88 or should I get 5.29?

I wouldn’t do 5.29’s with 33’s. Someone here did. If you search around it’s in this section for the forum. Mine was fine with 4.88’s and 35’s. Is yours an auto or manual?

Auto, it NEVER goes into 6th. Ever. Sometimes it likes to stay in 4th at 70....and mileage is better than in 5th.

If you plan to go larger tires (even if it’s 5 years down the road) do the 5.29’s. It’s such an invasive process to do gears, and expensive (unless you do it yourself) save the headache and do it right the first time. You’ll save money, time, and prevent doing a second break in procedure in the end (unless you cyro)

Honestly, I would look hard at the 5.29’s. I did the 4.88’s and I’m happy with them, but if the 5.29’s were available at the time I would’ve done them. I do have 34” tires and lots of armor, but I don’t see how you could go wrong with 5.29’s.

Same. I’m on 33’s and at the time only 4.88’s were available. I love the truck how it is with gears. Wouldn’t mind feeling what 5.29’s would be like tho haha. Guarantee a lot of pep to the step!!

I'm on 33s with 4.88s and it's perfect for my truck, but I don't have any extra weight other than about 100lbs of tools in the back. I turn 2100 rpm in 6th at 70 mph.

That might be best for me. All the non-removable stuff I'm adding is about 400lb.

That has more to do with Toyota and their throttle map. Get a re-tune like the OVTune..

I would go with 5.29’s, if I was to do it again.
