Stock tires will be just fine for moderate rock crawling, light trails and most of the parks. My wife and I did a 2500 mile trip through UT, AZ, and CO and did some offloading out there without a hitch.IMG_9126.jpg

Drove my Tacoma off the dealership lot and purchased some KO2s, have put 28,000 Miles on them and beat the piss out of them ever since. I purchased the 10 ply E rated ones and they have worn nicely and evenly without a ton of noise on the highway. My answer is yes you need new tires if you drive off the pavement. Think of them as a decent pair of Keens for hiking. 20181104_232758.jpg

Yes, there will be a bit of road noise. The more aggressive tire you get, the more road noise you will get.

I upgraded to C load Duratrac's simply because it was a better tire, best "rain" rating, and for me, the 3 peak snow designation for the winter.

The stockers will certainly puncture before a quality trail tire. Cooper does a neat demonstration using three of their tires to demonstrate the difference from stock replacement, to general/entry level all terrain to the cooper st maxx in an E rating. What makes the demonstration great is they are not trying to advertise their product being better than another by doing comparisons with competitor product, just providing a visual demo of what thicker rubber handles.

I've seen much less equipped vehicles go for it, and some fully equipped ones suffer all sorts of failures. Moral of the story...
