Anyone know what this might go to? I don’t have 4x4 and it’s just clipped into a plastic holder for some reason

It would be for 4x4 switch, if you had a 4x4. Toyota uses same wiring harness for all models.

Well that’s weird. Why add the harness if you weren’t gonna throw in the transfer case

They just make one wiring harness instead of trying to make one for each trim. It’s probably cheaper that way

It costs an unbelievable amount of money to re-engineer a new wiring harness with a new part number, and then keep both wiring harnesses in stock in warehouses as well as keep both harnesses in stock on the assembly line in the factory where workers can grab them.

Toyota was actually the first company to figure this type of stuff out, that's why they're such a big company.

Looks like a good excuse to put 4x4 in. Already got the harness, just a few more parts.

What stops the sport 4x4 from having crawl control other than the switch?

Don't worry... You aren't missing anything. Crawl control is useless.

The Sport and Offroad have totally different braking systems. Sport has conventional ABS with the computer-controlled hydraulics located on the passenger wheel well. This is just like most any other car on the road.

The offroad has A-Trac which is totally different and has a crazy-complicated master cylinder assembly. Not only can the computer release brakes on individual wheels if you're slipping under braking, but it can also apply brakes and power if you're stuck and spinning your wheels. You'd have to redo all your brakes if you're swapping.

Probably the ECM is flashed differently in the two trims. There has to be plenty of other crap involved as well.
