Price’s collision in Lebanon are the ones who just fixed my runner. They did a great job.

I'll be calling one of their Nashville locations in the morning. Hoping to get the Highlander off the wrecker lot asap.

Yea, those wrecker lots charge out the ass. I don’t think price’s does any of the mechanical stuff, they’ll take it somewhere for that. But if you wanna get the mechanical stuff done and worry about the body later, mark’s automotive in hermitage is an incredible shop. I’ve known the owner for years now and they’re stand up guys.

Got pics of the damage? Will the complex boot you out for a couple of days? If you can get it on a dolly you could bring it out here. My storage fees are cheap. Get some junkyard parts and we could make it road worthy again. Here's the info on some a few salvage yards near me.

Here's some shots of the Highlander. It's currently at a Price's Collision Center for a tear-down inspection so they can get me a good quote on what it would cost to get it running again. What I'm mostly worried about is the suspension damage to the front driver side.

I'm not opposed to spending some money on it since I got it for a steal and it's only got 86k miles on the engine. I couldn't care less about some dents on it as long as it drives.

Thanks again guys for your advice and offers of help! I'll let y'all know how the estimate looks.

Hey guys, been MIA here for quite a while. Unfortunately, PA school doesn't afford me much spare time. DOUBLE unfortunately, I found out that my truck has an upper oil pan gasket leak and I have two torn CV axle boots. The shop I've been taking it to gave me a quote for the two jobs individually and said that if I did them at the same time it would save me some money but the current quote is around $2300 for parts and labor. (Oh also, I need new pads and rotors which they quoted me $305 but I think I can figure that out.) Do these prices seem right? As I understand it you have to drop the front axle to get to to the upper oil pan which sounds pretty time intensive.

So, any thoughts on the price? This is at Christian Brothers Automotive in Knoxville off of Kingston Pike.

To replace the upper pan you apparently have to pull the trans (or atleast disconnect and shift back a hair) so that doesn’t seem too far off. Depending on if you ever want to take it off, you could just run a bead of some sort of high temp sealant or jb weld around the edge to keep it from leaking.

Good to hear from you again, how’s PA school going?

Are the CV boots on the same side?

I'm not sure how mechanical you are but replacing the entire CV axle (not just the boots) is not an overly difficult job and the parts will cost you less than $150.

Replacing the axle and brakes aren't big deals, I don't know about the upper oil pan gasket though. The big question right now though is, how much is your time worth? I hope school is going well for you. Do you have any idea what you want your primary focus to be?

Dave’s right about the time. But I’d also ask how bad the oil leak is? A leak is not usually a critical item as long as you stay on top of it. Also the CV Boots aren’t that critical either, especially if you don’t have the time to go wheeling.

Yeah thats what they were saying. They have to lower the diff and crank shaft to get up there.
PA school is going well. I'm in clinicals now. Started in Family Practice last week. Got to suture on my second day which was awesome. We do a colonoscopy every morning and we've had a few vasectomies which are not my favorite. Seems relatively uncomfortable but they're hopped up on VerSed so they don't remember anything.

From what I understand the boots on both CV axles are torn. From what I've been reading it doesn't seem like an overly difficult job. The quote has $381 for parts and $653 for labor which seemed high to me. I'm not particularly adept mechanically but I think one of my buddies has a bit of experience and I was going to run that part of the deal by him.

True. Again since I don't have much time on my hands and the time I do have I would prefer to spend hunting and fishing. I'm trying to only cook meat from animals I've killed this year (I say cook because I will eat out and if someone cooks something for me I'm not going to refuse it) and that takes quite a bit of the minimal time I have. I'm almost inclined to just pay it and move on with my life. The downside is that all of my money is loan money so I'll be paying back with interest.

At this point thinking either infectious disease or wound care. I LOVE suturing but don't care for the surgery lifestyle. From what I've heard working an outpatient surgery center could be a good fit and have more normal hours.

They weren't sure how bad it was. I haven't been seeing any oil under the truck so I'm thinking its relatively slow. They've been taking care of my truck for the last year and hadn't seen it before so its pretty new. They also acknowledged that neither of these things are like critical to have done now so I don't feel like they're pressuring me into anything.

I think I'd keep a bottle of oil behind the rear seat and check it every couple of days. When it gets half qt down, I'd top it off. For the CV's if the tears are only minor. I'd try to clean any excess grease off the outside then put some Gorilla tape over the hole. That'd only be a temporary fix, but I that should hold for a little while. If they are completely ripped open then you should probably replace them sooner than later. The Shops repair cost for the CV does sound a little high. Though if you haven't pulled a CV before it'd likely be a days labor for you to self-repair. There are some good videos on Youtube on how to replace the boots. Toyota sells a repair kit with all of the parts you need (boots, grease, clamps).

Has anyone tried to polish/buff their windshield in an attempt to remove fine scratches? I assume from mud on windshield wipers causing very light scratches that you can’t feel.
