The heat shielding remains after the install if that's your concern. If you're going to be towing I strongly recommend some kind of OBD device that lets you read back real time data.

From URD’s website for 2017 Taco this pic doesn’t show a heat shield. I’ve found other pics on the internet that also do not have any heat shield.

Is that a URD? Long bed or short?

Sweet... I was looking at this. Any video and/or thoughts on exhaust note/performance/fit? Also do you have stock down tubes (manifolds)? Thanks.

edit: nm, I see the stock tubes...

I've got the spec-U sitting in my garage but not sure of the sound after install. Their site says: "The exhaust note is more like the purr of a high-end European sports car than typical raspy Tacoma V6 sound you have been used to. It is very quiet during highway cruising and has a very unique exhaust note when accelerating!!" Can one really expect this? I've even purchased the Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator but still have cold feet to install.

I put a URD Y-pipe on my 2015 with the stock muffler and tail pipe. The exhaust tone was slightly louder, definately not obnoxious. Later I installed the TRD cat -back muffler and tail pipe. The exhaust tone was quiet as long as the engine was idleling or coasting. It became much louder outside and inside the cab after the muffler change. The drone inside the cab became very annoying after the "new" wore off. I will not replace the stock muffler and tail pipe on my 2019 if I ever decide to install a Y-pipe on it. I did not get before and after dynos to see if there was an increase in performance but it seems there would have to be considering the rear cats are removed. Gound clearance was never a consideration for me.

Been a long time, anyone have this y pipe in and let us know how it has been? Would love to know the power increase as well. Pick up my 2020 manual this evening or tomorrow and over the next few months will start building up the mods. OV tune or VF setup in about a year, will possibly do the power extractors, y pipe and an Ultraflow or fairly quiet muffler.

Main reason for desire for the Y is clearance and power! Will be building full skids and want rexhaust to be tucked up.

    this and that...
installed the mk2 ypipe last night and the 2020 pro trd exhaust (black tip) today. i can absolutely tell you that the ypipe does make a difference in both sound and performance. ive owned my sport for about a year and right after purchase installed an s&b intake system. as far as engine stuff, that was the only thing for that year. so i got a pretty good baseline on how my truck operated prior to this. after putting in the ypipe the pick up when youre going about is way more smooth. its also peppier in all gears above 2.5k (about.) as for sound, we all know what the trd exhaust sounds like. sounds good, but the noise is a bit on the quiet side. i suppose thats to adhere to their claim of no droning. with the urd ypipe the trd exhaust is much more audible. at first when i started it up i was kinda saddened cause it initally sounded like the ypipe didnt make it more audible, but im pleased to say after take it out and going galavanting about it did change; the packing on the inside needed a chance to burn off. i ended up running into my friend that has a pro and sounded off side by side. my truck has a much deeper note under load till about 5k where itll get drowned out by the intake. all in all if youre in the market for the ypipe. i say go for it. gadget helped me with my transaction. thats a good dude right there.

    edit: truck is standard trans.

Bringing a post back up. Where did you get the equal length Y pipe? Custom made?

Been looking at just doing the OR urd Y pipe with stock exhaust. Already running RCI skids minus the trannsfer case one due to stock Y pipe still installed.

Any other Y pipe options out there? 589 seems steep but realize $$ are going up on this type of stuff.

think thats urd spec u exhaust. equal length y pipe plus muffler i think. doesn't work with certain skids. at least but without some modification. not sure about rci.

I am wondering if any TW members have tried this Y-Pipe. $145 is a great price.

I have the ypipe with a borla exhaust. I put the ypipe in before I got the new exhaust setup, and it sounded terrible. It was like a metallic sound. Once I took my stock exhaust off though and got a deeper sound from the new catback it was definitely better

I run aFe's Y-Pipe, which has been better than my experience with URD's. It may be because URD is a bigger piping, it had a raspy metallic sound around 3-4k rpm.

It is paired with a Borla S Type muffler. I think it sounds great down low and high up. Just the mid range a little rasp depending on load and gear it is in (usually 2nd/3rd gear)

Just found this thread… i got the y pipe to help with clearance but didn’t see on the site about non ca compliant or removing the rear cats. Going thru this thread was way more helpful than their advertisement.
I guess i have a y pipe to put up for sale in that section today, grrr. I need to stay ca compliant, dont want that headache.
