can the 12V dash power port be made full time by reprogramming computer or do you have to hard wire it?

Hardwire would be my best guess. May I ask what your reasoning is? I ask because if you are looking to power something constantly there is a blank spot in the dash fuse panel that is constant power. I have my dash cam tapped off of that with an add a fuse.

    Thanks, daddyo
I’m a hunter and need power to my dog tracking equipment when the ignition is off. The dc power cords on my equipment don’t have usb ends. They only plug into lighter type power port or I’d put in a usb receiver in one of the blanks and power it as u suggested. What I really want to do is make lighter port “hot” all the time but I don’t know how!

What if you were to install your own 12v outlet and used the add a fuse to utilize the constant power. This seems like it would be the easiest method, unless you want to fish out wires and find the hot going to the existing port and then tap into a constant source. Also you have to be careful when tapping wires on the system, it can be finicky and should something happen where you need electrical work under warranty that makes it easier for them to deny. By using an add a fuse and your own outlet you can easily remove that if needed.

Could always install a Blue Sea fuse box in the engine and wire the equipment into the fuse box with constant power.

Just add a fuse with a USB/power outport. I have that for a couple accessories. Really easy to do and takes less than 20 minutes. Just open the fuse box under the driver's legs and pop into one of the constant-ons

I added a non-keyed dual usb. There's a ground point right behind the HVAC panel and I found power in the unused trailer brake connection behind the drivers kick panel. When I install a trailer brake, I will have to redo that. Works great for now.

I wired my 12v outlet hot. Simply cut the (pink/grey wire if I remember right, the positive one anywyas) and hooked it to my aux fuse panel. Simply tonthe battery with an in-line fuse would do the trick too. Or to a hot all the time fuse under the dash with an add-a-fuse as others have suggested. A test light should tell you what ones would work.

Hey Guys thanks for all the suggestions. I really appreciate it. Since I don’t know how to get the factory charging port out of the dash, my tracking equipment requires the round receptical which will not fit in a rectangular blank, I’m old, lol, and can’t work a lot under the dash to remove fuse panel I think I’m gonna run a fused line from the battery thru the firewall and either connect to the (pink/gray) wire or just put a multi port on the end of it. I really wanted it to be less conspicuous.

If you post up in the regional forums someone may be willing to help you for a cold beverage. If you happen to be in Northern Louisiana I would definitely do it for a nice frosty drink.

    Thanks DaddyO!
Ordered a CBI hidden winch mount yesterday and a Smittybilt 9500 winch this morning. Maybe I can combine these projects and get a deal from someone.
I really appreciate your input. Wish you were closer.

I have a pic of it in pieces. I will post it up.

The basic steps are to slide the connector off the back side. In side the metal barrel are two black squares. One you can easily see on the bottom. There is a similar one on the top. While gently pushing the metal barrel toward the back of the truck, gently push the two black square tabs away from the barrel. The barrel will slide out toward you.

With the metal barrel out, the black plastic surround / cap can then be pulled out toward you also.

If you need to, the connector can be disassembled also. Just a couple snaps and catches.
