Hondo Garage's New Thing

Size is going to be subjective. For me, it's bulky in my specific situation especially when I could be using the extra space for another wrench or a socket for my axle nut. I don't need a 5kw unit for a 260 cubic foot area. A 2KW unit is more than enough. YMMV as with all things.

 

argh! delayed, so I cant pick up this weekend. There was a delay in receiving materials.

 

Shitty, that happens a lot with small manufactures and not being able to secure materials with suppliers. They don't have the capital or buying power and forecasting their material needs is an afterthought.

Just posted mine up for sale. It's been awesome, but a few factors (not related to the GFC itself) forced me to make a decision.

I agree this thread took a weird turn, but glad to see it's getting back on track!

 

Like the comments but not about selling your spot. Plenty of people just reading the posts that aren't putting anybody down. I think with many things it just takes those few to give others a a bad taste. I hope you stick with the GFC.

 

I am about to be spending the rest of the month in my GFC. I decided to install some temporary insulation on the panels and bedsides. I am hoping it helps a little bit. I used polyiso foam board.

Anyways.... back to arguing about locks, water, and geography....

I used reflectix tape. Planning on doing some more of the bed sides with reflectix tomorrow as well.

 

So foam board like this? How thick?


And reflectix insulation like this?



And reflectix tape like this? Is this any different than foil duct tape?

Yes to all 3. I used the thinnest board they had. It’s all so light you could go thicker.
I’m not sure of the difference on the tape. I used some aluminum tape that I had from sealing up my bedsides once I ran out of the reflectix tape.
Reflectix alone isn’t a good insulator. So I’m just hoping it might make a little bit of a difference in addition to the insulation board.
This is by no means a permanent solution. Just trying to experiment and keep the dog a little warmer.
I’ll be spending more time “downstairs” on this trip because I’ll be traveling with just the dog and me.

 

Thanks for the info. I have some 1/2” foam board so maybe I’ll keep it and try it myself.

 

To be honest. The panels sound so much more solid while closing. It’s pretty nice.

 

That's almost exactly what I would do. I'd like to cover the the foam with white polycarbonate signboard, via contact glue, just thick enough to tap. You could then use that for various attachment points for light stuff. Hmm... might be more hassle than its worth?

White formica would lighten up the interior, protect the foam and be easy to clean. Help with heat too, especially with the flat black that I'll will have....one of these days.

With all this talk of heaters and insulation, does anyone have a recommendation for an inside/outside thermometer to measure how much all this is helping?

I mainly use it to check fridge temps, but mine has 2 outdoor sensors. So one could go outside, with the second in the fridge, and you can monitor all that from the display. They're all pretty inexpensive.
