Sorry, I would go disconnect mine and check the resistance real quick, but I am stuck in Peru at the moment. (at least then get an idea if the sensor or not)

Pull your battery negative cable for 10 minutes. This will reset computer. Might help.

I think I'm just going to order the part. It's only about $30. It seems it's just a plug-n-play. Had started watching a video on how to change it on a camry on my phone but got distracted. The part seems to be the same though across Toyotas

yeah its not a bad shot, especially if it isnt that, then per the service manual it is the wiring or the airconditioner amplifier box.
Its possible that the wiring would go bad without being shorted or completely open, but seems pertty unlikely. So if not the sensor, it is likely the air conditioner amplifier I assume, and I figure that will be alot more expensive.

Yay for being 5k miles out of warranty :frusty: let’s hope it’s just the sensor

Sucks that stupid temp sensor can take out the AC too effectively.
If disconnect sensor completely, it might throw a code, but maybe it won't disable AC in the process too. (I know where I am it is AC season just about every day of the year...)

Unplugging it will give you your code spoken about earlier.(shorted or an open) Being inaccurate may not throw a dtc. I'd replace the sensor.

Just pulled the negative cable for about 10 minutes. Truck is now reading 54* which may be accurate. I don’t have the hair dryer down here right now and I need to go take a conference call. Going to try the hair dryer to it after and I’ll report back

Truck on. Temp reads 61 and then instantly jumps down to 53. Have the hair dryer running on it for about 5 mins. Hasn’t budged a single degree up or down. Going to go ahead and order the new part and see if that works

    Update:

Seems that it’s now working properly. I don’t drive more than 10 miles a day if at all but it seemed to be reading accurately yesterday while I went to grab some beers. I will be monitoring it again today when I head out

Just something to keep in mind:
my 17 had a cracked windshield at 500 miles, safelite replaced it and all was fine for 5 months. rainy season came and suddenly my truck started having a few issues. my outside temp gauge and my fuel level were reading very inaccurate.
i pulled the harnesses in the driver side kick panel apart and found corrosion on a few of the wires.
i repaired them and charged safelite to fix it, and they paid a local windshield guy to fix the glass properly. there was a small section halfway up the driver side of the glass that was slowly leaking water in.

if you've had a windshield replaced, its something to look out for. its not all that uncommon.

Interesting. I've had my windshield replaced but it was about a year and a half ago. My fuel gauge hasn't had any issues though. And this issue did start after a big rain storm. If it starts acting up again I will take a look at what you mentioned.

It all depends what wires get affected. Those two systems are in the same connector, as well as a few others. I could look it up and see what’s in that one if I get some free time later

Could be the part itself but more likely there's a loose or dirty connection somewhere. These temp sensors (thermistors) will be sealed units with no moving parts, and it worked fine originally. It's probably 99.99% reliable.

Bad connection somewhere = higher circuit resistance = lower temperature reading.

Looks like it plugs back into the A/C amplifier?

Back in country, want me to measure resistance of sensor in my truck tomorrow?

    Wow that sucks.
Wonder if we need to put a drip shield over that connector area ? Cheap insurance.
What function is that pin that got overheated ?
