Tundra TRD Lift?

I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD Pro. After purchasing it I had asked about adding another inch to the factory 2 inch lift that came on the truck. They basically said all the parts you buy in a TRD pro would have be taken out and replaced to give it a 3 inch left.

My question is on the tundra. I'm looking to move up. The local dealer has one I like. Its a TRD off road and I am wondering if I would run into the same problem or if a lift is no problem.

yeah, what they're telling you is that there's more to lifting the truck that physically just making it higher......you'll run into all sorts of issues with control arm angles and vibrations if you don't use properly sized parts for the entire setup.

I can't speak for the Tundra OR specifically, but it'll likely be the same thing. The whole point of the OR and Pro trims is that they've got trim-specific suspensions (and a rear locker) but other than that they're basically the same truck mechanically as the lower trims. You'd be better off buying a lower trim truck and swapping out that cheaper OEM suspension with a full lift kit.

ah thanks for the info. I know nothing about lifting I just like the way it looks. I dont want to get involved with another purchase that I cannot do anything. They are offering me the TRD off road for the same price as one without.

 

don't forget, they're just trying to make a buck. It's your money, make sure you think it all out. Don't let some salesman pressure you into anything.

yeah I hear you. Not a real fan of dealerships. So it sounds like with a TRD Off Road that lifting it is totally possible just more expensive to have it done than it would be for a non TRD off road model, correct?

 

well the work and new lift would be the same to put in, you'd just be taking out a more expensive stock suspension than say on a Sport or SR.

Could work out if you were to sell the old parts? Dealership might not agree to give them back to you though, sometimes they're funny about that stuff. You'd be better off getting a mom n pop shop that you trust to do it for you.

 

That makes total sense. I actually want the Limited. My wife has a limited 4runner so when I get in that then go to my tacoma with the sport cloth its not as nice of a ride. Tundra has the limited and I dont care if has TRD on it, just 4x4

not sure about the Tundra Limited, but for the Taco the Limited is basically a Sport with a better interior.......so if it's the same for the Tundra, you're basically taking a Sport suspension off to do the lift
