Tough choice ain't it dawg. I've still got quite a bit of time on my contract I some days I want to reenlist and others I would kill to be done.

Just do what you want to do. You'll know its the right choice when you make it.

We do appreciate the time you did serve though. :)

Yeah deffinately so. I've been doing college, that was one of the main reasons for joining the reserves. But deployment soon, so I took this semester off. :)

You miss the service-but how is life on the outside going for you?? Are you able to find work?? Making friends/going out and doing stuff??
If you are finding a place but just miss the service- I would give it some more time. You decided to get out for a reason right??
If you aren't comfortable as a civilian...maybe think about getting back in. Sometimes civilian life isn't right for everyone.

Brother, I know exactly where youre at. I just passed my 1 year mark as a civilian and its a HUGE transition. I'm a full time college student now, last summer was tough, with nothing to do. Now school has largely taken up the structure that the military gave me, and the discipline I learned there has helped me a lot here in the civilian fleet. Give it a little more time, remember why you got out in the first place and look at what you want to do. If you do go back in, good on you, almost all of the career guys I know left at one point only to find that they really did love the service. Best of luck.

I wish I was yer age and it to do all over again. I would've stayed in but things weren't quite like they are now in 1991! It was hard to get out of the USMC and realize how good I had it when I was in. But then again hind sight is 20/20.

Devil Dog, I think you should join the reserves. If you don't like the reserves, you can put in papers for active duty. Best of both worlds.

IF you're a grunt, you can join 2/23 Golf Co., which is in Los Alamitos or you can join Weapons Co. in Point Huemete or however the fuck you spell it.

I'm with Echo Co. 2/23 up in the San Francisco area.

    semper fi!

There's a marine unit at Los Alamitos??

Learn something new every day. My dad was there for a year, I worked across the street for 2, and never saw anyone outside Guard or Army.

A 6 year contract!! What the Heck!! Dude, thats a commitment. 2 years is still a grip of time. Whats ur MOS?

Its not too bad our here in the civilian world. I go to school full time and so im getting a stipend for housing. The problem isn't the money, I have a void in my heart. I was at SF Selection while I was still on active duty and got med dropped. I want to stay in the tactical mindset. If I went back in it wouldn't be with the regular military, I would go back to SF. This is probably one of the hardest decisions of my life. I dunno man, us Americans want immediate satisfaction, its in our culture and hard to snap out of. Thanks for the input.

Ya man, its super hard to be back to square one coming from a leadership billet. Like I said above, patience is key to this dilemma. Good luck with school dude.

I know a lot of former Marines that were forced out and had no say whatsoever. Its actually very difficult to get back in the Corps, since the 200+ expansion. The grass is always greener when your in.

I definitely need to give it more than a month. The caveat is the longer im out the harder it is to get back in, and my skill set is super perishable. I think im answering my own question with the help of everybody's feedback.

Did you just DD me? lol jk. Im waiting for a new message to come out about reserve MARSOC opportunities. I talked to a few of my buddies that are at 1st MSOB and they said the doors are about to open up. Again, I need to be PATIENT. But ya, I think the reserves could be in my future.

Why not try for something Paramilitary orientated? Police service, Fire or EMS?

I just took the Riverside County Sheriffs test today :D. The next step is the agility test. We will see how that works. My dream in life would be to work for the FBI's HRT team or any position at a well known "Agency" (cough, cough) The problem is I need to finish my degree. Than I can transition to that community, also the desire in my heart for SF is super overwhelming.
