86-year-old Florida woman accused of fatally beating 89-year-old husband with cane

Investigators say an 86-year-old Florida woman fatally beat her 89-year-old husband with a walking cane.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Officials say Ramona Maxine Lund is charged with murder and is being held in the jail's infirmary on $250,000 bond as authorities work together to evaluate whether she suffers from dementia.

A neighbor called 911 Saturday after seeing her standing over Francis Lund's body on the front porch. He told detectives he thought Lund had fallen and his wife was trying to help him up. The neighbor performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Inside the home, investigators found pieces of the cane covered in blood.

The Pensacola News Journal reports that the sheriff, prosecutor and public defender have taken the unusual step of agreeing to evaluate her mental competency.

Anyone bother to read "About the author" at the bottom of the article? Might explain why he singled out Taco owners.

    Son of a bitch!
I think she actually hits the brakes at the last second. Well done. Lucky too.

    Reminded me of this..
Some kids dropped a slurpy off a bridge once and the woman driving in front of us took her hands off the wheel and covered her face. Just about took out 2 lanes of traffic. I mean, its never happened to me but I would hope I dont react like that.
Either way, we took the next exit (grew up in the neighborhood) and found the kids....we scared the shit out of them and a few other people in the area but I can promise you they have never thrown anything off a bridge again. This was on the same road where someone dropped a garden nome and hit a school bus, driver managed to pull over while having a heart attack and then passed away. So it kinda irked us a bit.

Wow. No jail time. But again, kids that age are notorious for making bad decisions.

However, they knew what they were doing could be fatal so there’s still no excuse for such horrifically bad behavior. Yet somehow they did the right thing when the wrong person was accused.

    Again, wow.
