Took my truck in today for 10000 mile service, transmission tsb and brake recall. Scheduled the service in advance but after sitting for an hour I was given a rental car and told they have to order parts for recall. I made the appointment a week in advance and you think they would have the parts knowing I was coming in.

Good news is they were fully on board to do the tsb for the transmission.

Have a highlander seems to have same engine as tacoma but feels peppier.

Just curious, did you receive a recall notice in the mail... my VIN returns the recall information on https://www.toyota.com/owners/resources/recalls, however I’ve not received any written notification yet.

Was told they did not send out the recall yet but when I told them about the tsb they found the recall by looking up my vin. That all happened last week when I called.

Did you ask if any required parts were in stock while making the appointment?

No, that's why I called in advance. I also did not check to see if they had oil and filter in stock because it is common knowledge that they need the parts to complete the scheduled job.

I think free miles on another car is a sweet deal.

Agree with you but have to take off work to do all this. Highlander is nice bit makes me appreciate my taco. The erganomics of the taco fit me better. I have always fit the driving position of tacos very well. Guess I'm lucky.

Recall parts are different than common service items like consumables such as oil and filters, recall items can put a demand on specialty parts that may take longer than a week for delivery.

When the CPS recall hit and my truck was part of the campaign, I asked my dealership if the part was available and they said they would order it and let me know when it arrives, once that happened THEN we scheduled the appointment for installation.

You assumed the part was available without verifying, it happens.

No big deal, make a new appointment after your part arrives.

Supplier might not be able to keep up with production and recall demand. Maybe that's why the delay in sending out notifications.

Very possible, once people get notified that's when the rush to get it done happens.

Recall press is bad enough, not being able to fix shortly after notification makes bad press even worse.

Look at how long some trucks were confiscated while waiting on parts during the leaking differential recall. It was not good.

They kept your truck because of the recall? I called and made an appointment for the recall and the day of the appointment was the same story, oh we have to order the parts. Keep in mind the only reason for this appointment was the recall. Anyway, I took my truck back and a little over a week later I got a call the parts were in. I had my appointment this past Monday, it took about an hour to do the job. They didnt keep my truck on their lot for over a week while waiting for parts.

Yes they said they could not allow me to drive it. Maybe it was bad? No symptoms though. Oh well. Have them order parts before you go.
