This smells like a whorehouse at low tide. I’d sue...and demand my warranty money back...unless of course there is something your not telling us...like water intrusion perhaps...or low fluid?

OP - why, is there a paper trail as to why Toyota denied the claim? You came for help, lets hear the entire story.

Does anybody know the detailed information that Techstream will give? The reason I ask is because on our outboard boat engines I can hook up the computer and it will show me the different RPM ranges and how much time was spent in each range. It will also tell me if there was an over rev condition or abusive overspeed. If the trucks show this info then there must have been something that didnt look good.
A regional rep is supposed to be a non biased party that has authorization to make a warranty decision without prior approval. His job is to satisfy both the customer and the manufacturer within reason. There has to be some signs of abuse in order for the Rep to say No.

OP, I have been neutral on this thread until now. I have not made 'fishy story' comments, nor questioned your integrity. I still won't, but there is no way Toyota or GM or Honda or etc will deny a warranty claim based on "they claim I was stuck". Period. End. Of. Story. Tacoma rear axles are not known for catastrophic failures under normal driving conditions. It can happen but is uncommon. So either you got a 'lemon' rear axle, the service writer hates you, or there is something Toyota suspects happened that you are not telling us about.

For what it's worth I am a complete and unapologetic ASSHOLE. That's just who I am. That said, I've broken and completely tore up stuff entirely due to my fault. I have ALWAYS approached the manufacturer, dealer, retailer, etc in a polite, nice, friendly manner and admitted I was at fault and what can I do to remedy the problem. You would be amazed at the number of companies who have either ate the replacement/repair cost themselves or reduced the cost to me out of goodwill/good customer relations. The majority have actually. Sometimes it pays to be nice and admit fault when you know deep down it was something you did that caused the breakage. I can see the service writer getting defensive and saying to himself 'the hell with this dude' if you stormed in the dealership pissed off. I'm not suggesting you did, but if you did maybe that started it.

Post #11 tells the story. One tire has wear? This suggests (please correct me if this is off base) a decent amount of throttle and thus tire spinning for a period of time long enough to heat the tire to the point of light surface damage. Differentials don't like this.... Add 75W85 gear oil to the mix and broken parts we have.

wouldn't if only one wheel spinning bad only cause maybe the spider gears and the locker parts to fail?
the ring and pinion are always spinning when your moving weather or not its at 100mph or 30mph
unless your jamming forward/reverse/forward... pictures or it didn't happen .

This has nothing to do with his extended warranty. The extended warranty doesn't start until his factory warranty ends at 36k miles. Not sure what he spent $4k on when you can get a 7/125 extended Toyota warranty for $1,500.00.

Not doubting you, but where can one get a 7/125 warranty for $1500? And is it backed by Toyota or some aftermarket 3rd party?

Toyota Platinum. Troy Dietrich. Last time I checked they were right around that amount. They may have gone up some.

Buy a whole new diff, axle and all. Replace yourself. Drive to dealership, dump axle, parts and oil in the box of the closest taco to the front door.
Unless of course you ARE responsible for the damage, own it and move on.

I ended up using the quotes from that guy when I bought my warranty, the dealer matched his price which was $15xx for 8/125k.

Anyone hear back from the OP? I know it's a crappy situation for him. I just wish we had all the details. Heck maybe we do and it's just a bad run of luck??

He pressed for the answer a little to hard it would appear. It's actually a good read.
