Cool! Might do a clear wrap with a map on it.

Deadman is very lightweight- as the other poster mentioned, it may be the better option in your case to save weight (it’s reinforced nylon, like a sea anchor for sand and other things you can wrap it around):

I don't think his wife's required inside bathroom fits in a Norweld too well. They are pretty awesome though...

If they're looking at a FWC, a norweld tray with the flat style FWC would be perfect.

Sorry, I was thinking Norweld Canopy, not Ute Tray! Absolutely the FWC & flatbed would be best way to go. Though the XP camper sounds nice too.

@Round the world , sorry if I missed it, but is your Tacoma a short bed or long bed?

My wife and I were going to order one of these back in January of 2018. Received the options list and spec sheet and was shocked to see 1200 pounds as the dry weight after reading articles and seeing on their site 900 pounds. When I asked them about it they responded, "Our goal is to reach 900 lbs. and when we first designed the camper in our design program it estimated the weight of 900lbs. We are working towards that goal still, but currently the weight is estimated around 1200." Now I'm not trying to bad mouth Earthcruiser, I was just shocked and decided that was beyond the weight I wanted to haul around regularly (I'm a weekend camper currently, no expeditions planned). Their website has since been updated to show a more accurate weight. I still think the GZL is an awesome option. I really liked the layout inside, and the look is MUCH better than a FWC (IMO). With the long bed that the OP has, I'd think the XPCamper would be a slightly better option, but not positive since I've never been in one of those to see first hand.

Thanks. Yes I’m trying to decide if the Norweld flatbed is worth the 3x extra premium over a UTE flatbed.

    Flatbed choices
Four Wheel Camper $37,400, weighting 1,570 lbs optioned out, plus UTE flatbed $2,500
XP Camper V2 $51,350, weighting 1,470 lbs, with options, plus $8,650 for their own highly optioned flatbed

    Slide-in choices
Earthcruiser GZL +-$38,000, weighting roughly 1,200 lbs
ATC Bobcat $19,545, maybe 1,000 lbs, no toilet or shower -doesn’t meet the wife’s specs

Ouch! Heavy and expensive. We’ll be making a visit to them all to check em out next month

@Round the world If you use Instagram, Overland Market currently has a White non-hood scoop 3rd gen Tacoma good for sale

Also a good source for used/reduced price parts

Also it is not needed and tends to make situations a heck of a lot worse.

Seriously. Small arms are great for personal defense against petty punks and thugs in 1st world countries that recognize the right to self defense. 3rd world political shitstorms? Unless you have a small personal army you're better off playing dumb, hoping for the best, and accepting the consequences of your choice to go.

The weights and price tags are both pretty steep. Personally I’m doing a AT Habitat for my needs.

The other thing I was looking at a lot was the Alu cab canopy camper.

    http://alu.cab/en/alu-cab-canopy-camper/

You’d be in it $15k for the top end one ($10k base) and about 400 lbs. much less weight and for the cost savings you can build out the bed anyway you want with water systems, power, toilet, etc.

They also make the khaya that’s a slide in.

Thanks for the heads up and funny you mention alu cab. My wife arrives in Cape Town today talk about a coincidence. I’ll see if she wants to stop by and check out their slide-ins. She’s pretty set on a toilet and shower.
