That’s what it looked like from his picture, but couldn’t tell for sure. Glad to hear they’re going this route

I for one appreciate the commitment to update the first page with your design goals and plans. The earlier you can know for sure and therefore tell/show everyone exactly where components will live, the better. And everyone needs to understand that your goals/plans are "living" in the sense that they change with new information.

If the 1st post is the first place ANY change in goals or plan is recorded (not in the thread) than that should help both the expectation, forum discussion and ultimately sales. Having it there first ALWAYS gives everyone peace of mind that they know what is going on without having to read every post. And for you to respond to them.

There is no need to "re-invent the wheel" as far as product development process goes.

And you didn't want to use a supercharger why?
You'll have 15 feet of hot side piping in that mess it's just crazy. I know I'm the hater as everyone stated before but I've turboed my fair share of autos and at a glance you see this isn't going to be easy to turbo.
For stock engine what we looking at whp wise 80? Safely anyway.
    Cost sc just made sense

He's already addressed his choice of turbo > SC. Just do a quick search of his posts within this thread and you'll find it

Plus, for anyone that prefers a supercharger over a turbo anyway, you have the option of waiting for the guys over at Magnusson to finally figure out their lives WRT to development of their sc kit and tuning for the 3GT.

URD is developing a SC for the 3.5L 3GT as well. They already have one out for the 2.7L

What about a procharger or rotrex? Im definitely interested in boost of some kind but I dont want to take apart half the engine bay to get it installed.

That being said I have a 1000 hp k24 running a BW EFR 9180. For such a large turbo it spools stupid fast so I totally understand the reasoning for using a EFR turbo. Definitely one of the best turbos on the market right now.

The problem with using a procharger or rotrex is that all of the power is going to be available in higher RPM where this truck almost never drives in. Due to the way the gears are setup, with a rotrex unit you'll peak power / torque only in the low gears and it will still be dead in the higher gears.

This truck needs peak torque from 2000 to 4000 rpm.

Have you had this running on the dyno yet or running on a similar engine? I'd honestly be seriously impressed if you can get that 7670 spooled up enough at 2k to the point that its noticeable at 2k. Are you expecting that 7670 to be able to build 5-10 psi at ~2k?

Im honestly wondering if you would be even better off stepping down to a .83 rather then the .92 but Im not super familar with turbo v6s.

Definitely interested in seeing what comes out of this work though.

This setup is still being built, so not yet. I do not expect full boost at 2000 rpm but I do expect it to be much more responsive than any rotrex style setup.
As far as how much boost we will see at 2000 RPM we will know soon.

Well that's not even close to "from I can see from on pic you posted" to what you will have here.
That Audi is much more of a dyno queen now I'm sure but I bet the small factory twins had a lot less lag.
Look at some dyno numbers from new jeeps with SC good tq spikes as early as 2k.
I'm not hating at all man really just seems a bit tweek for the average joe looking for little more go.

I am very interested in where we are going for the goals and what’s reasonable to be expected from a turbo kit. Will they generate some economy if you lay off the skinny pedal? Is this just a hp thing? Is it better to cruise at a speed that has full boost? Will I ever be able to afford this working part time on the corner?!

No, for best mpgs you want little boost as possible.

When I’m cruising in my TDI good fuel mileage means staying out of boost. Bc more air has to have more fuel to keep mixtures right.

I’m not a person you should ask extensive questioning too

This is beginning to sound like a design goal. I like it! Peak at 2000 would be fantastic as it implies a relatively good increase lower. Think heavy loads and/or towing with armor, etc.

With the gearing we have it would seem that power down low should be prioritized over mpg. I am a *little* concerned that your test bed is soon to have gears (4.88?) as that represents a very small percentage of Tacoma owners. And probably even less if they could have bought a turbo kit first, although I'm certain there will be a vocal group that denies this.

Holy shit man, I thought you worked for OVtune and knew everything. You have more responses in this thread about his turbo kit that’s not even done being designed yet, than he does.

Glad he put you in your place a little. Let him finish making his kit, and then you can ramble on after he releases it.
