Its finally Alaska cold, went aurora chasing last night with a buddy, it was -20F when I left my house and bottomed out at -35F when I picked up my truck. The AT3 4S’s were a little lumpy driving home, meaning they froze with a flat spot due to the cold, but smoothed out within a mile and had great traction. My Tacoma started right up without being plugged in after sitting for 4 hours.

Finally got some weather miles in! Went up to Bend, Oregon this past weekend and on the way home got into some snow and ice along 97 and I-5 Southbound between Weed and Castella.. was super impressed with the slick, icy, and snow handling. On the way up the weather was dry but my wife and I both really appreciated the lack of road noise. Not sure if it’s due to the tires or new OVTune version but gas mileage was really awesome, 2-3mpg better than my old (265/75/16 ST Maxx) mileage even with the elevation changes. These tires are great

Edit: for reference 285/75/17 AT3 XLT

You're getting 2-3 mpg better on a larger tire?

Another quick update... Took the Taco to the ski resort Saturday with the fam. Tires are great on dry roads. Still quiet and smooth. Then drove around in 2 inches of slush, then sheets of ice last night. No need for 4WD yet. Still incredibly satisfied and confident on my 4S's. These are awesome tires!

    Hey
    atrain23,

tread "chopping" or scalloping can be indicating the tires have not been rotated frequently enough, and tires need to be cross rotated (assuming your alignment is good)... Cross rotation means getting the the tires side to side on the vehicle not just front to back. I would recommend Rearward X rotation (the front tires cross as they go to the rear axle, and the rear tires go straight to the front). Or if it is too much of a pain to get the whole vehicle up at once you could do left-right rotation, drive 5K or 10K miles, then the next rotation do front-back... and repeat this left-right, then front-back rotation plan...

All non-directional tires need cross rotated even with perfect alignment, otherwise heel-toe then worse alternating/scalloping wear sets in. It's best to rotate before any visual odd wear is seen, if you can see it you are a bit late. Hope this was helpful.

Bought my 4S tires and mounted in July '18. Now at about 14,000 on them, and I did a full tread measurement. Measuring in very evenly at 11/32nds vs. the new 14/32nds but they barely even look worn. The way I drive, I'm happy to get 30k out of a set of tires honestly - lots of mountains and tight cornering with load. Based on how evenly these are wearing, I'm very happy

Yeah at least on the two tanks this last trip. I put them on 12/07 and have averaged 12.42 over 4 tanks, on the 2 tanks for the trip I averaged 14.9, +~2.48. These numbers are from my vehicle display screen, though, and have never been adjusted for tire size. So totals should hopefully be higher than what the screen is showing. And as mentioned I did reflash to the new OVTune revision just prior to the trip which feels 100x better on the highway and hills. YMMV

I was a bit curious so I just went back to my 4 pre-AT3 fill ups and averaged 14.05. So yeah a slight bump/increase with larger tires and OVTune goodness. Otherwise I took a 1.6mpg decrease.

I bought a set of 285/75/16 old style At3s in February of 2017. Since then I have put 40,000 miles on them, rotating every 5k miles. The majority of my driving is highway, likely 90% with the other 10% being very spirited runs down some very bad oilfield lease roads in west Texas and off-roading trips into the mountains of Colorado. My experience with the At3 Includes vibrating ride and increasingly growing noise. They ride very harsh at 35 psi. But it might also be my icon suspension. After only 40k miles I am down to 5/32 of tread and have noticed significant scalloping even though I keep my alignment in check and cross rotate every 5k miles. After an insurance related issue, I acquired an At3 XLT replacemt after an incident and I really like the look of them. Even though I decided previously that I wouldn’t go back to Cooper’s, I just ordered the other 3 XLTs to match. I really hope this set will live up to its mileage warranty and give me a smoother, quieter ride with the Offroad performance I have seen in my previous set. Otherwise I will be going to C rated ridge grapplers. Will update with pics and ride quality in a few days.

For what it's worth, my XLT's have been great . No complaints whatsoever thus far. The only terrain I have yet to test them on is snow and deep mud. I only have 1500 miles on them so far, but they're showing no signs of wear. I've experimented with a few different pressures and 30 front and back seems to work well for me. I do have a hard top and quite a bit of gear in the bed. Have yet to do a chalk test. Anyway, hope your experience goes as well as mine has up to this point.

I have 285/75/16 XLT's on stock rims and I'm running 30psi up front and 28psi in the rear. I've always run the rear a little less since there is less weight back there. I did the chalk test and it's still a little high but it rides great. I've only got a few thousand miles on them mostly highway and I like them so far. Had them in a some snow and they did good but it wasn't enough to realy test them out.

Do your TPMS sensors go off with such a low pressure?

Only when the temp drops down below freezing. I set my pressure then reset the TPMS and it's been fine.

A 2 inch lift with JBA UCA's and I rub on the passenger side cab mount in reverse. Other than that no rubbing so far.
