AMD, from my understanding, has also been the more budget friendly option as well, I just never learned the product lines for AMD like Intel.

I don’t tend to upgrade CPU’s often, my last windows PC cpu was a core 2 duo, then I stepped up to an I5 3440, and the next year or two I would like to go to an I7, have 32Gb Ram and a 580 or equivalent as I’m starting to edit more HD video footage.

    Thanks

If you edit video then go AMD. Their strength is core count, power efficiency, and low temperatures when all cores are maxed out. I know, Intel used to be like that but it's switched now. Wait for this spring, the Ryzen 3xxx series will come out. From the rumors for the price of an i7 you'll be able to get a Ryzen 3700 12 core processor and motherboard. Ram is still the most expensive upgrade because of the shortage and market manipulation by producers. DDR4 will cost a pretty penny for either Intel or AMD but offers much higher clock speeds.

Getting dads PC setup to use the button on the case for power instead of opening the side of the case and hitting the Dell button and I have a wiring question.

The OEM power button is 5 wires.
From the top center of the connector working clockwise.
    Blue
    Black
    Yellow
    Red
    Orange

Yellow and red have continuity no matter what.
Black and yellow and black and red have continuity only when the power button is pushed.

Making an educated guess, black is ground, red is power in, so those two take care of the main function of the switch.

Orange and Blue appear to be the positive and negative leads for the LED to the power button.

Leaving yellow for the reset, correct?

In this photo the wires are Black-Orange-Yellow

^ Most likely that is correct.

I was wrong, the only ground needed is for the LED, the switch should only momentarily close the circuit to signal the MoBo to start.
2 hots for the LED (dual color LED) and one ground, and then a hot in for the switch with a return/signal going back to close the circuit.

Press and hold the switch to get the restart as it is a function of the MoBo that just reads the duration of hold on the button when pressed.

I decided to google it because surely someone has done it before and this is what popped up.

What does a non-validated FreeSync gaming monitor look like?

Seems like this is partially accurate.
    Red-3.3V
    Black-3.3V
    Orange-5V
    Blue-5V
    Yellow-Grnd

Touch black to yellow and we have lift off.

I don't know who to believe on this one. I've ran freesync and the first drivers had some issues but eventually AMD smoothed them out until the point complaints were almost non-existent. I think nVidia is the problem with some of those 400 other monitors and not the monitor itself. Keep in mind I run g-sync not so I'm not just some fanboy trashing nVidia.

Did you ensure that it is seated properly? It should be showing in BIOS, unless there's an option to turn on NVME M.2 in BIOS.
The SSD I installed in my dads PC showed in BIOS but not storage so I can't help very much if it doesn't show in BIOS.

I find it funny the press seems excited when it’ll be an AMD 2080 but without RT or DLSS... at the same price. The release doesn’t make sense to me, sure it’ll beat the 2080 at certain benchmarks but with nVidia having such a hold of game producers I can’t see how AMD can compete with a card at the same price point that won’t match performance.

I have seen some instances where m.2 slots will only accept SATA m.2, and the PCI-E m.2 drives are not supported. My oldests current system is an acer that has one of these slots.

From what I've been told anything that is X390 or newer from Intel will auto enable NVMe. Otherwise it defaults to SATA. What's really tough is that on X99 NVMe was never actually supported, so some folks get it to work and others don't.
