    Sadly, like I'd prefer a Wrangler with an automatic transmission... :(

    I learned how to drive stick in my uncle's 1991 Toyota 2WD pickup. I've driven the following vehicles with manual transmissions, not including the Wrangler:

    2002 Nissan Frontier (my other uncle's)
    2002 Saturn SL
    1971 Volkswagen Bus (yet another uncle's)
    2007 Nissan Frontier (at work)
    2018 Volkswagen Golf wagon (at work)
    2015 Chevy Sonic RS (at work)

    The Toyota pickup and both VWs were easy to drive. The Chevy Sonic was also easy, once I figured out how to get it into reverse (Pull gearshift up, then to the right and back if I remember correctly). I did not get along with either Frontier, stalling both within seconds of starting.

    The black 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara pictured above had a hair trigger clutch and did not like being idled in first gear without the clutch pedal at least halfway in.

    My verdict is that I would love to have a stick shift Tacoma, but I'd have to thoroughly test drive anything else before making a purchase.

    Not often you see these around anymore. This is a Plymouth Acclaim. Some, like this fully loaded 1990 LX V6 model, are lucky enough to end up in the hands of senior citizens who actually take care of them (I've met the old woman who owns this).

    IMG_0866.jpg

    Most were purchased for rental fleets and had the ever-loving shit driven out of them. A good number were also purchased from their caring elderly owners as first cars for teenagers and college students, who didn't care for them.

    If you look closely, you'll see this one says "EXEMPT" on the emissions sticker. In Pennsylvania, 25 of 67 counties require emissions testing on gasoline-powered passenger vehicles, but vehicles driven less than 5,000 miles a year are exempt.

    IMG_0870.jpg

    One thing you might also notice is that the emissions sticker is good through January 2020, but the safety inspection sticker expired in December 2018.

    Another not-so-fun fact about Pennsylvania's absurd vehicle inspection rules; If your vehicle fails the safety inspection but passes the emissions test, you get a new emissions sticker. If your vehicle fails emissions, then you automatically fail BOTH!

    Hence the reason my friend Justin was driving his '07 AC 5-lug SR5 around with a good emissions sticker but an expired safety sticker for months while he fought with Toyota for a new frame...

    Emissions is the one they need to do away with...

    I haven't paid for a safety inspection at my Toyota dealer in years. The fucking emissions test is $60.

    Also, it's not the safety inspection itself that annoys me, but the mundane shit you can fail for (window tint too dark, tires extending past fenders, fog lights that operate independently of high-beams, check engine light being on, etc).

    @El Duderino

    I see my inspection stickers as a badge of honor. I've had my truck since September 2009 and have NEVER failed an inspection!

    Hawaii’s I think is the most strict in the nation. Cars can’t even have stickers in the back window lol it’s crazy. And if you modify suspension, exhaust, wheels past stock size, or engine you need a reconstruction permit

    Hawaii is fun to visit, but that's just one of many reasons I'd never LIVE there!

    Reconstruction permits to modify something that's titled in your name?!?! Hawaii, go fuck yourself...

    @El Duderino

    No stickers in the back window...?

    I guess the People's Republic of Hawaii wouldn't let me register my truck there!

    In some states they'd probably fail you for having the stars and bars on the front...

    I loathe political correctness!!!

    They do get there recon with those crazy lifts in stock tires then they go get their wide tires on right after safety check. Then the just go get their safety check with the tires that match their recon paper work for the safety then boom they switch again

    WTF are you supposed to do if a recon permit gets revoked? Not exactly easy to return the vehicle to stock sometimes...
