...Finally, we spotted the main wash through the canyon. Still a half mile or more away, it was clear to us at this point that we were likely to have a problem - the wash, which had been completely dry the day before, was a rushing river, all the washes we'd passed so far feeding into it...

It was muddy and we had a quarter mile of wash to drive through...

    The slot canyons were amazing!

As we wrapped up our exploration and pulled back onto the road toward camp we stumbled across The Devil's Garden - a "garden" of hoodoo's (and one arch), brilliant orange against the late afternoon sky and clouds...

If you're ever in the area, this is something you absolutely can't miss - but for now, check it out in

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
Makes perfect sense. Thanks so much!! Just installed the lift today. Didn't have time to rig up how to affix the rack to the hoist, but that should be easy. Your suggestion will be first thing when I go back out to the garage. Thanks again Dave. You sure have been a great wealth of knowledge.

...And then, a change of scenery. The Burr Trail continued south at this point to Bullfrog, a town we'd visit later on the trip - but we were headed east, towards the Henry Mountains - now seemingly so close we could touch them.

    We stopped, to admire.

Check out the story and amazing photos at F.U.Rain Day 11 - We Follow the Burr Trail to the Henry Mountains

...A leisurely lunch behind us, we headed back up the boat ramp ... we had an important place to be - Bears Ears National Monument - a location we wanted to visit in its current form, before any reductions have time to affect the land.

Read the story at F.U.Rain Day 12 - Walloped by Wind, We Head to Bears Ears

Along our route, Monte had noticed a horseshoe bend in the Colorado River and marked it on our maps. We had no idea if there'd be an access road or not, so we were excited when one presented itself, even if there was a half-mile hike at the end in order to see the large meander...

And then, there was this guy, exploring a ditch:

Just a bunch of old crap
I finally pulled the trigger yesterday on the Alu-Cab Gen 3 aluminum RTT and their swing-out awning to replace my old Tepui tent and my relatively new ARB awning. Looking forward to a more streamlined tent that is much faster to deploy by myself and to stow away. I chose the bare aluminum finish so I can have my paint guy also color match bedliner coat it to match my truck. Should have it delivered next week and probably take another week for prep and paint. It will be all ready for this summer's camping season. I have a long bed 2nd gen with a slightly taller than cab height tube steel bed rack so it will fit perfectly. I like how the awning mounts right to the side of the tent so I don't have to modify my awning mounts.

I almost went that route with the alucab cap too, but decided to save $2k and get a go fast camper instead. I do like those though, and color matched should be awesome!

...And then it was my turn. Having watched the two guys in front of me, I picked my line and watched my speed. Halfway across, I could feel the water rushing down the wash, the truck slipping ever-so-slightly downstream as it fought for traction. And then, I was out!

This was perhaps the dumbest thing we'd done all trip.

Check it out with photos at F.U.Rain Day 13 - Our Dangerous Move Into Capitol Reef National Park

There were some other cheaper options out there, but I really need simplicity in setting up and the 2 latches and strut assist for one person setup seemed to be best with the Alu-Cab. As well as the one-person setup of the Shadow awning. I had a stroke so I have limited mobility and can't crawl around my bed rack anymore to set up a regular RTT. 2 latches, quick ladder hookup, and a pull strap sounds like a dream. I also couldn't as easily bedliner color match a fiberglass shell as good as a metal one. My paint guy said it would be more prep and priming on fiberglass and the semi flexibility of plastics and fiberglass would probably cause premature cracking. Plus I just like the idea of the durability of aluminum diamondplate versus thin fiberglass especially sitting out in the hot AZ sun for years.

I have that tent and I like it a lot. It sets up way easier than my CVT did, but probably just due to the lack of window awnings. The tent's fabric feels study and the aluminum/dense foam base is better than I anticipated. The mounting hardware is pretty cool and doesn't require tools. The mattress is pretty comfy too. I had a 1.5" memory foam topper in my CVT before, but I haven't felt the need to add any to this one yet.

Edit: @Tacos03 Only thing I've sort of grown to not like too much is the cover. The snowboard-style buckles are pretty cool if you don't have bedding inside, but with my 0* bag inside it's really tough to close and the cover doesn't fully wrap the non-ladder side when it is closed

Tent security question for everyone. I will have it on my truck for a month, before our camping trip, I need to make room in my garage when not in use. How does everyone keep it from getting stolen when parked at grocery store, mall, public areas overnight etc.
