Just got back from the mountains with truck going over 11K Berthoud Pass twice. I've ran 1.02 91, 1.03 91, TSB, then 1.04r 91. Currently running 1.05 91. Best tune IMO. Even with 33 inch tires and stock gears truck can zip up the grades in the fast lane. Really impressed @OVTune Hwy driving much improved. Thank you!

What's the difference between 04B30 and 04B31, exactly? I currently have 04B30... is there a TSB update or something else that I'm missing?

All the changes to throttle/ignition/load/etc. Power on 1.05 feels awesome, there is no lack of power. Mat nailed it on the throttle response and tip in IMO. Low RPM power (1000-1500rpm) definitely is improved from stock, and shifting is much smoother along with the torque converter activity. The SSP will give 3 more selectable shift maps in addition to the 1.05 D map. So, while we wait for custom tuning/shift points/gear lock, I'll play with the SSP some and see how it all works together.

I have the pinging issue too. I'm running 91 tune with 91 gas. I did take out a ticket when the first iteration of 1.05 came out and let Mat know about it and he said the updated version would release soon. I updated to the second version and the pinging is still there. I was on the same tank of gas (Tesoro 91) so figured maybe it was just a bad tank and the ECU still needed to set itself so I didn't get back to Mat about the pinging and figured I'd let it play itself out for a bit. Got my second tank of gas (Chevron 91) and the pinging is still there so now I'm figuring it's my truck and the tune not being optimized for my setup. Never had the pinging in any other version of the tune so I figure Mat just upped the performance just a tad and because my truck has some extra weight, 4.88s and 35s that could be the issue so when the time comes for custom tunes things will probably get ironed out. I'm not worried about it. For the time being,I will be trying Shell 92 for my next tank. I'd love to try 93 but unfortunately there is only 1 gas station in Hawaii that sells 93 and it's 2 islands over from me. lol. The only other issue I've had is pretty significant surging when cold which I remedy with 30 seconds of warm-up and I have an occasional issue with my daily uphill drive where it'll hold 5th going uphill until it needs to kick down to 4th but it keeps holding a tad bit too long so when I give it just a little more throttle it'll kick down to 3rd and rev like hell. Again no big deal cause it doesn't do it all the time and that is remedied by S mode going uphill. MPG are almost the same as 1.04r if not, just a tad bit worse (but still a bit better than the TSB). Again, I think it's my particular combo of gears, tires and weight plus my daily hilly driving that contribute to my issues. I offered Mat that I could data log info for him but he didn't seem too concerned. I will pursue things further with Mat after all files have been sent out to all customers including the M/T freaks, I'm not in a rush cause this tune is the best thing to happen to my truck since visiting Miss Chang's Oriental Car wash and Spa (happy ending included). Phenomenal job Mat has done on this tune. I really wish more people could comprehend that most of our trucks have mods done to them so one tune won't fit all....kinda like underwear really, most of us got boy parts but obviously my large satchel ball carrying thong will not fit some of the princess' in this forum much the same that their pink frillies won't fit me. One size won't fit all of us so let's accept our happy vanilla sundae and wait patiently till Mat tells us to get in line to add Oreo crumbles and gummy bears and all the other toppings to make our sundae fit us.

I have the same size tires that you do. I bought a speedo recalibration module (Hypertech), for 225 at 4wheel drive.
I was showing 32 miles on the odometer for a 27 mile actual distance.
On my first 3rd gen after a year of commuting ran up over 26 thousand miles when it got totaled. My current 3rd gen over 13 months, I have 26 thousand miles and it had 5 thousand miles when I bought it.
I lost out on some value from her insurance settlement. Didn't matter in my situation cause I was 6k upside down according to her insurance company.
    Cheers

I was on 1.04 91 and then flashed 1.05 87. It performed the same in some respects. The drivability is 70 percent better. I thought the motor would have lower performance even on 1.05 and 87. It doesn't feel a lot more linear. Just filled my 4th tank with 89. I might flash to 89 before I go for a couple hundred mile drive tomorrow morning.
Looking forward to it, taking my wife and 2 great Danes down the Columbia gorge for fun. I love looking in my side mirror and seeing these 2 goofy heads hanging out.

Flashed 1.05 a few nights ago. After taking the Tacoma on a 3k mile trip over the holidays on stock. Flashing 1.05 was a night and day difference. Like the majority it made the driveability more enjoyable. The shifts are way smoother and it feels natural like it should have been from factory. I don’t know what I had for stock as I never or couldn’t check what version I had for the stock file.

Thanks OV for releasing this tune.

Question. Running 1.05 91 currently and my battery left me stranded this morning. Only had it back from the dealership for the paint warranty fiasco for almost a week. When I got it back truck started right up no problems but temps were in the 40s and up here in md. Had a cold snap yesterday but only noticed one start where it felt like the battery was going. Usually when this happens in prior experiences I've got atleast 2 days before death by battery. I know these Toyota batteries are known for dying early, read a few threads on here about it. Damn thing isn't even two years old and the only aftermarket thing on the truck is hids which I carried over from my car so I've had for 4 or 5 years with no issues. With the tune I've noticed lower rpms. I know older vehicles relied on rpms to spin the alternator fast enough to charge. Could this already existing issue with the batteries be made worse by the tune? Does the computer control alternator output so it knows when to up the juice? Am I just crazy?
Just want to know what to expect when i replace the battery in a few hours after i fight the dealer for reimbursement because I dont want another one of their crappy batteries.

I thought that was required info provided to ovtune to get the correct 1.05 file for your truck.

I'm not trying to shut you don't and I did not say what you're experiencing is false, I'm saying that your post of too much advance on ignition / vvt is false, because it is.

It's likely ignition related and has existed as an issue on some trucks stock.

    What we know is:
    1. The issue exists outside of any tune.
    2. The tune allows for more load (from throttle) at these lower rpms than stock
    3. More throttle at these rpms increase the issue on trucks that have the issue.

But the issue itself..is still up for debate.

Techstream is the only way you'll get high-sample rates to log, yes. But you can still diagnose things through logging and reports you can pull while connected via OBD2. I use OBD Fusion with a Veepek and bought the 9.99 Toyota pack that reads all of the custom sensor data on this particular truck and I can see anything I want real-time and there is an option to pull a "report" while the truck is running which will show you things like "all cylinder misfire count" on a given trip and across all individual cylinders.

Those are good, all cylinder misfire count is available as well and would help you see whether what you're experiencing is indeed a misfire. You can also show torque converter status to see if any of the slippage or "missing" feeling is converter related or even shifting based on viewing the shift status. I also look at knock F/B value and knock correction learn value

Here ya go. Stock truck on 91 octane tune.
75 mph into a 17 mph head wind. Stayed in 6th my entire 50 Mile trip. Normally would have done the shift dance between 4-5-6, with mostly being in 5th gear.

I got 18 mpg into that headwind that day (on Winter blend fuel). Small sample size but I'm getting a little better overall fuel mileage, with more power. I know speed greatly affects the fuel mileage in these trucks.

It's not released yet but it is ready. It will be released when we are ready to start customized tunes.

    - For pending tickets that need custom tuning / options (like gear lock) etc - You will receive our logger once we open up custom tunes. There is not a ETA on this yet.
    - We are actively working through other tickets right now and preparing for MT release.
    - If you have a pending ticket with an issue, we will get to it as fast as we can. PMing me here, posting here will not get anything solved any faster.
    - We expect Handhelds to be ready to go by end of this month, possibly sooner.
-Please be patient while we work through everything as fast as we can. If you have not heard back on your ticket yet that does NOT mean you are being ignored.
    - For people who have issues that require logging to diagnose, we are sending the logger out to you.

I'll be off the forums for a while, while we update and get through everyone.

You’re probably hearing the infamous High Pressure Fuel Pump Chirp. There’s a separate thread and TSB on it (sorry, can’t get to the link right now). I brought the TSB up to my service manager last year at my last free servicing and they agreed to install a new pump. The tech called me back and we both listened. He said he could hear it, but many were a lot worse. According to him, the pump is built by Subaru and Toyota uses it in several models. The Lexus owners go bananas over the noise. He said he’d be happy to install a new pump, but it would probably start chirping again. Long story short, I followed his advice to wait until closer to the 60K mile cut-off for the TSB. By then, I would get a new pump and Subaru may have redesigned it.

Edit: 1.05 has seemed to soothe the noise some. Mat’s Atkinson tweaks, etc. may be the reason. I seem to remember him saying he could manipulate the fuel pressure based on conditions.

The noise i'm hearing is definitely not the fuel pump. It's from the engine. It's subtle. But it's always been there since new.

Injector cleaning is likely the noise you described. It is still present with 1.05 which is a good thing. Sounds kind of like a diesel ticking.
