I am in the construction business and have been fortunate to be working for the last 3 months...............but now it has seem to have dropped off...........I partly think it is the economy (that's a given) and maybe with kids out of school some may be traveling as well, and yes people do not want to put money into their homes at this time. I'm finding myself this week looking into the next couple weeks and wondering where the money may be coming from just to survive. Anyone else relate?.................

I, too, am in the construction industry, and the economy has been treating me much like my Dogs treat the grass when they shit on it.

I'm the type that goes crazy not doing anything constructive.............I have ran out of things to do at my own house...........I've never understood and never will those people who sit around all day doing nothing and are happy.............unless they are collecting a government check it 3 different names................

Yeah I am like you and like to be constructive. Now I am not super constructive and keep myself busy allllll day, but I always got something to do here or there. But at the end of the day I like to put my feet up and relax with my dog. I to cannot understand people that just sit around all day and watch TV. Get out!!! Go do something!!!

I've been very lucky (knocking on wood). I got pounded in the last recession (The Dot Com bust). I've been working throughout this one. I got laid off last year in June but I was working a week later and I've been rolling along since. It hasn't hit my sector of the economy too bad yet. I'm in IT and I've been doing for a long time. I'm just keeping my head down and mouth shut until things turn around.

well i am in the military so i have a steady paycheck, but my investments have sure taken a beating over the past few years. i would love to be able to get out of the air force and finish school up, but with the job market the way it is I would be afraid I wouldn't be able to find a job.

I'm a commissioned auto parts salesman and my income is down about 20%. Needless to say it sucks, not to mention my house is worth 50k less than I owe on it and I put 70k down with a conventional 6% loan. So far I've been able to keep my credit rating good and I'm not going deeper into debt, but I don't know how much longer I can last at this rate, especially with our taxes going up next year.

I'm in IT and still working. Although our customers aren't spending what they used to putting in equipment. This is an oil and gas town so I think the economy is hurting their business budgets.
Working for a telco helps though!

Supermarket business in the northeast is doing well. Stop & Shop grew at a faster rate than walmart last year. Just got a new three year contract in place. Truck and wifes Acura are paid. To top it off, I just got my mortgage under 100k. 40k down in about five years.

My 401k took a beating, but the gold fund has taken off. All in all, my plan for retirement at 55 seems good.
