Not sure why you think it’s odsollete, I just checked and Advanced Auto has the one I bought In stock.
Either way you have a baseline to start from and can cross reference for a different maker if needed

Yeah, you're right. I'm not sure what happened with my search earlier this morning...maybe I typed in the wrong part number. Thanks for following up.

Alright, so I spoke directly to Champion & Ledfoot Racing. They said that there has indeed been a design change, so it looks like going forward all of their CC1778 radiators will have the offset filler neck. They claim that all aftermarket Tacoma radiators have the offset neck to allow the hood to close - which we all know is incorrect.

My next dilemma involves the cap. I went to both Napa and Autozone (the closest Advanced is not that close to me) and both stores matched the Champion cap with an OEM Tacoma sized cap. Neither place was able to produce a 16 LB cap that was sized the same. When I got home I confirmed that my OEM Tacoma cap fits the new Champion CC1778. While I feel like the OEM cap would be of higher quality, I can't deal with the "ears" being angled and so I need to find a rounded cap similar to the one @1997tacomav6 has.

    @1997tacomav6 ,
Do you remember if the CarQuest cap you have is the same size as our OEM caps? I plan on driving to Advanced tomorrow, but I'm just flustered at this point and curious...

Oops, I forgot to add that I measured the OEM and Champion caps' inner diameter with calipers and they measured at ~43.5mm.

I measured the 43.5mm in the same spot as the 59mm is measured in the below pic:

    Thanks for updating.

After digging through what feels like hundreds of websites, I found one that said this Stant 10231 (and therefore probably the CarQuest 10231 as well) can be used on multiple sized filler necks to include 1.69" (43mm) O.D., 2.69" (68mm) O.D. and 2.23" (56mm) O.D. So maybe Champion didn't change the filler neck size - only the location.

The stock radiator doesn't keep the tranny cool at all anyways. Get an aftermarket cooler for it and call it a day. Buy a 5vzfe manual tranny radiator and it'll be fine

It Is What it is ---- Well if you look at the 1st Gen True Tacoma, 3.4 the Rad filler hole is OFF-SET, Plastic filler hole. It would be nice to have the filler hole center-Line. O'well Champion has a Great Warranty Program.
Only issue I see, is the filling process/ time, if it really impedes the orifice, as you can see in my photos, got some SLAG DEBRI left over in the bottom of the filler hole. Going to keep this Rad, and hold Champion to its word!.

So I just picked up the CarQuest 10231 and it doesn't fit this new radiator - it's too big. Now I'm wondering if the radiator will even fit our 1st gen Tacomas since Champion has obviously made so many changes. Has anyone with a newer CC1778 installed theirs yet?

After searching for hours last night, I wasn't able to find any 16psi caps in the 44mm size so if this is the new design going forward we'll be stuck with the factory type 13psi caps.

After going back and forth with Champion on eBay I’m going to return it. All they are doing is giving me the run around and delaying so I have less actions to take.

If I’m lucky they’ll respond to me within the day but usually within two days or more. This is right after I get their reply so I know they are still on. They offer a partial refund to keep the radiator then give me a run around if I got the right one, so basically they are delaying to do the partial refund. They even ask me to take out my old one to compare it (you’re kidding right).
I started a return through eBay with a prepaid shipping label through USPS. Got a reply from them saying they would send Fedex to pickup my package on the 14th. No thanks, I have to ship it back by the 14th through eBay or I can’t return it. Going from my experience with them they would delay the pickup as well and give me more run around. By that time I’ll be SOL. Not saying I’m the smartest person but they must think I’m stupid. This has been going on since Dec 28.

How’s it working out for you? Everything fit the same and does the fill port offset help or interfere with anything?

Haven't filled it with coolant yet. Lined up fine and the part of the hood that comes down to the core support would be nowhere near the cap if it was in the middle of the radiator.

Even if the fill neck is not in the right place as before the benefits of this radiator will be huge. No plastic parts, 3 core instead of 1 core, more antifreeze in the system.

The biggest problem with these toyota motors in the aluminum heads and this radiator will keep
the temps much cooler than the stock radiator and added clearance for those needing it Being that it does not drop down below the frame

Lining it up against the old one, it basically ends at the bottom where the lower plastic tank begins on the stock style tanks.
