I used Varathane on mine. 3 or 4 coats, and it is holding up fine.

I have BedRug carpet Velcro'd to the top of the platform, which protects the wood, and provides a little padding when lying down in there.

I am building mine now. I am using a couple of coats of Minwax Helmsman spar urethane on the wood.

Looks awesome man. Keep the pics coming I need to do this soon. I like the ball bearing idea. Do you have a stopper for when the drawers are extended out?

Thank you! I don’t yet, but I’ll put a stopper block in so that they can’t slide out. The ball bearings are working well, think I may add some in the sides too.

Looks awesome! What's the plan for the angled brackets? (sorry if I missed it somewhere along this thread)

Those are going to mount to the bolts holding my topper mounts on! I’ll take the bolt out and insert the angled brackets where the topper attaches. The angles will match the slope of the topper and act as rod tube storage for my fly rod tubes. It will work perfectly for my 8’-9’ 2 piece rods. Not sure about four piece or three piece. Will report back on that.

That is just gorgeous! But it also reminds me of how unskilled I am so I'm just going sleep on the bed mat and never build a sleeping platform! Haha j/k

You are only as unskilled ad you let yourself be. The wats I have gotten better at things is to just decide that I want to do something and go for it. Sometimes it turns out in was way better then i thought sometimes not so much, but i still gained expierence for the next try. Also with a bed system like this if you cover it in carpet, it will hide lots of little defects.

More progress today. Carpet cut to fit for the drawers. Sanded all edges of both drawers as well as the top platform pieces. Sanded the shit out of it.

Also put my rod tube holders in. They are sweet. And judging by how loose the bolts for my topper were it was about to fall off anyways, so, glad I did it.

I've built a few wooden things, but I'm doing just that right now, sleeping on a mattress on the bed mat. I like the headroom, and I'm getting a feel for camping logistics in this new no-tent world. Double cab gives me plenty of room up-front for stuff, for a weekend. I also like to return the truck to it's empty state after camping, for other purposes...

    Just getting started
I went for a very simple shelf, with a door on each side that lifts up for access through the windoors. Dry storage with levels makes it easy to pack and get to a lot of stuff.

Oh crap lol, well in that case I’d say $200-$250+ is probably a steal!
