Thank you! I guess I will try to install it without any caps first to see if it clears, then go from there.

For installing it, did you drill straight through the bed rail and use a lock washer/nylon lock nut combo (or similar)?

I think getting an exact measurement of the Flippac would be the best way to figure out how well it will fit.

The main source for dust and water getting into my bed is where the rear window and tailgate meet. If you have to add spacers, you will have to take extra care to seal up that area pretty well.

Why do you want to remove the caps? Mine is on the caps with some weather proofing in between. It's drilled through the bed rail in 6 spots and held there with 5/16" bolts, washers, and nylock nuts.

I think with the bed caps off it will create a better seal. Although, I may try it with the caps on at first (before putting on a bulb seal) to see if it clears the cab. I know if I remove the caps, I'll loose an 1" or so of height which I may need.

I think what I will end up doing is removing the caps, applying bulb seal like @inv3ctiv3 shows in his post right above, use 2x4 tubing to space up the flippac, then figure out a way to completely seal the back by the tailgate. I will have to wait until Thursday till I know for certain.

Also I noticed that you have yakima tracks directly on the top of yours - Was that there when you bought them? I've never seen tracks bolted directly on top, only side mounted ones.

I am so sad! I really wish these or something similar would be produced today.

Forgot to update - Thank you everyone for your help. I got the flippac on! I can now offer advice about installing it on the bed caps and the issues I ran into.

    Awesome.

I’ll be color matching mine this summer.

    It’s got a shitty rattle-can paint job now. :(

Getting ready to drill for hood pins...

The stock arms that come down from the Flippac are too short. I am making new ones with new hardware from Bimini Tops.

Should you be able to pull down to make the Flippac completely straight when you latch on the bar to the hood pins, or should there be a slight incline for the cab-over portion?

Here’s a picture with no bars, just how it sits when opened up.

Mine has a slight incline when setup. I replaced the plastic bimini hardware with stainless. It’s more streamlined with clip in hardware on the top that sits lower and lets me stow the bars behind the passenger seat with the crank handle.

And do you pull down on the flippac a good bit to latch it on the hood pins?

Thanks guys, I figured it out. Just pulled a tiny bit harder downwards. I was skeptical pulling down and creating extra stress on the torsion bar but it feels solid.

Will take a look at your writeup Jim, thank you.

Mine looks the same when set up.

I just found the spare support rod I had - just need to get that upgraded hardware...

One of my arms is slightly bent from an encounter with a low hanging branch. One of the reasons I went with the quick release bimini stuff so I can keep them in the truck instead of on the roof waiting for another branch!

I think this is a must-do mod for anyone who wheels with a flippac. It's on my short list.

Longer term mod is finding a better replacement tent that I can install and not have to use the SLO rainfly... More to come on that in February.

Still waiting to see if you do end up working with the company to get a replacement made.

I was so close to ordering a rainfly last night, but realized that $440+ could go towards my house downpayment.

So I bought a $16 tarp instead and some bungee cords.

The SLO is a very well made piece. I’m glad mine came with it so I did not have to purchase it new.

Back in October on my last trip we got a pretty good rainstorm. Everything stayed perfectly dry. :D
