3rd gen SPOD setups?

Can you describe the route you took with the Cat5 to get to that mounting position? I'm looking to do the same once my Bantam arrives.
Also, we're you able to fit the arb twin in the bed in one of the compartment/boxes? If so, any pictures/description of mods...thanks!

 

I tapped in at the trailer hook up since I was already running wires all the way up for other stuff. Had to use a relay to switch polarity since the dome light is negatively switched.

 

@mesojdm Did you ever make this? I need one for the sPOD HD panel.

 

Has anyone mounted the Touch screen in the sunglasses holder? I’m really thinking about that location and would love some input and pictures!

 

I think a recessed but angled(down towards the driver ~20°) in the sun glass spot would be rad.
I made a similar panel(albeit flat) that goes in that spot... so I should have the same dimensions. That’s if Toyota didn’t change the size of the opening for crawl control—-> sunglass holder.

 

I'll add my 2 cents on this:

I've had a custom 6 switch panel in my sunglass holder on my 2nd gen for a couple years now. It looks awesome up there but I didn't really like they way it functions. I found myself kind of disoriented when trying to use it while driving or on the trail..... After a while I obviously memorized the locations of the switches and could do it by feel so I became satisfied with it. I'm now moving to a 3rd gen and am planning to move to the
sPOD system with touchscreen and I would definitely not want to put it overhead since you wouldn't be able to operate by feel. Hope my experiences help and if you end up making a touchscreen mount for the dash/console area I'll be all over it!

 

Nicely said. The buttons may look cool up above, but functionality wise, the lower left cubby is perfect for me. When needed, I can drive with my fingers sitting on the HD panel so I can press a switch at a moment’s notice without looking. (Also, with that in mind, the tactile buttons of the sPOD are a bonus over the Switch-Pros.)

 

I sincerely appreciate everyone’s input! Two things number one I would place it in the cubby on the left but it’s going to be the touch screen model and I would find it a bit difficult to look down there to see what it is I’m pressing which leads us into the second thing! I’m 6’,2” so the sunglasses holder is damn near in my line of sight for the screen unlike the cubby on the left! That’s the main reason I was thinking about placing it there

I never got the exact dimensions of an SPOD. Once I do, it’s cake to integrate it into my panel. I am now offering custom made(to your specs) on my website but don’t have the SPOD as an option until I get measurements

 

I like your style, which is why I am one of the lucky ones that got 3rd gen lights this go around.
I bought a couple Bantams over the BF sales.
I can pull measurements and order a custom one.

Hi- I think I see the SPOD panel on your website when looking at the custom design. Did you get the HD Smart Panel measured up for a different order?

 

I mounted the touch screen near that location [if I had a sunglass holder]. Very likely too late to be of help to you but I was looking for other info in this thread and thought I'd add a picture and brief write up.
Discount Battery. Take off the A pillar trim; it comes off easily, a few screws and some retention clips- it covers the curtain airbag and there is plenty of space for the wire. Take down the headliner instrument cluster; it comes off easily but is a bit scarier since your pulling down on the headliner. Work one corner at a time. Fish the cable from headliner to A pillar to firewall rubber grommet, there is one high up that works well. Cut off the Cat5 connection if you are able to re-terminate it and make the hole you need smaller, use a sharp hot knife to make the initial cut in the headliner like an X and then drill slowly, clean up hole with hot knife.

 

does anyone have a pic of how they mounted up the source under the hood? Just picked up an spod off Facebook marketplace for $200 and Im trying to figure out how the heck to mount this thing up

Should I run an in-line 100a fuse from the accessory battery to the SPOD?

It seems like a good idea but it’s been tricky to google and crawl the forums for.

 

I think they all max at 100amps and if I remember correctly they come with 100amp in-line fuse. So yes 100amp fuse between it and the battery of your choice. Does that help?
