I sure hope it doesn't look like these photos, though maybe this is just a bad angle.

That looks like a BMW Z3 with a wide body kit drove through the K-Mart accessory aisle.

I came across this photo recently. I think it looks a lot better without the stupid cladding. Still not sure I like it.

Personally, I think the idea of a Supra with a BMW drivetrain is a huge insult.

I can’t imagine the production version will look anything like that Gran Tursimo-esque video. No odd hood vents or widebody will be mass produced by Toyota/BMW, they are way too polarizing to the public.

I hope the new Supra is great but I bet it will fail like the NSX.

    Lotsa shit.
I highly doubt BMW and Toyota are going to be able to make a bad car. The main issue that the NSX had was not only the anticipation, but it was the fact that people try to compare it, an awesome car in every aspect to facts of the old NSX and of the past and to stuff like the Ford GT and Z06, I mean come on, what do you expect when you compare it like that. By all means the GT86/ BRZ deal went well with Subaru, so I can see this going great. Fuck, how bad do you think a partnership with BMW, the makes of probably 3 or 4 of the best performance cars currently on the market can be? Don't even get me started on the M2 either, that may be the greatest car on the market at the moment. If it shares anything with that, it will be a winner.

yeah, that is the FT-1, the original concept from a few years back. if you ask me, that with a twin turbo m3 engine, tuned to about 500 wouldn't be a half bad car at all. probably the best looking concept car ever in all reality.

I don't think it will be a bad car. What I'm saying is that it's lazy. The 1jz and 2jz engines were and still are two of the most sought after engines for hobbyists. To follow that up by borrowing an engine from another manufacturer, good or bad, is an insult to that legacy. Maybe just my opinion, but I'm sure I'm not alone.

Aside from that, I personally would never want to own a BMW.

Agreed. That and I hate the poor quality and ridulous repair costs of BMW to never buy or lease one.

I think they are only going to have automatic transmissions too...

Exactly! BMW's are excellent cars, but I've never heard anything good about owning one

    Agreed!
Lack of a manual transmission options makes me wonder if they really pay attention to what enthusiasts want.

True, most good automatics will out accelerate most people in a manual. Still, most of my car guy buddies will take a stick over an auto any day

And I don't mean paddle shifter either I want a actual stick shift and a floor clutch. Just got to be if a sports car wants to be in my garage.

I just saw that the new lexus LS500 comes with a 3.5 liter twin turbo v6 making 416 hp and 442 lb/ft of torque. If toyota has half a brain, maybe they'll use that motor in the supra. Unless that's also a BMW motor..

I'm not interested, I think it's telling that their entry level sports car the AE86 uses an Subaru engine and it's even more telling that their flagship Supra will use a BMW engine. Something tells me that Kiichiro Toyoda is rolling over in his grave. I'm sure it made financial sense. I'd really like to see a Celica GT4 aka a Subaru WRX/STi fighter

A new Celica would be awesome! The scion TC is a lousy replacement. I'm saying that despite owning one. I like my TC, but it's way too heavy to be a worthwhile project. Especially not with a transmission that will fail the second you throw 400 horsepower at it

Couldn't agree more with this. Huge mistake. It's a BMW with Toyota badges

If they made another version of the MKIV (body style, drivetrain etc) it would sell like hotcakes. People aren't going to buy this.

Maybe it will look better in person, but those photos of it only rise to the level of "meh".
