I start mine and give it a quick bump from neutral to drive to get me out of the garage. I'll kick it back to neutral and sit for half a minute or more depending on the temperature while I sort my stuff, close the garage door.... After about 100 yards, it can be full WOT getting onto Bailey Cove if I'm in a hurry, if not I baby it through the school zones and such for about 3 miles.

On cold mornings, I tend to let mine run for about 5 minutes.

Getting fluids and seals to an operating temp, before applying a load is still practiced in the aviation world.

I honestly don’t see where that can hurt, but then again I’m old... :anonymous:

if my car breaks down i'm still in better shape than gliding to the nearest airport or worst case open patch of land.

I do the same when I can. Remote start makes it easy, just hit it 5 min before departure, and I get to hop into a cozy cab on cold morning anyway. Hoping to make this one last forever, so I feel bad for making it deal with all the stop signs in my neighborhood while cold lol.

Only reason I can see to not let it warm up at idle would be wasting gas, but if I was that worried about a cup or two of gas, I'd have bought a prius or tesla or something...

given there's no numbers or scientific backing, but let's say your truck only lasts to 350k miles and mine lasts to 325k would you say that's because of warm up procedures. I think it's a debated topic that doesn't really have to be. it's personal preference is what i'd leave it at.

Yeah I definitely lean on the "proper break-in and warmups" vs "drive it like you stole it". You're right though, I haven't seen any data. But a basic knowledge of how engines work, and how metal, rubber, oil, and plastic change depending on their temperatures says it's probably better to do than not. :notsure: I imagine there's some pretty tight tolerances in there, that probably aren't ideal outside of operating temp.

i only let my dirt bikes reach close to operating temp before riding, only because I can feel the radiator before taking off.

Well looks like I’m gonna be buying the Dakar leaf Spring Kit for the rear and get rid of those scary Toytec blocks in the rear. Out of curiousity, what all is needed to do a u bolt flip?
