I would agree. I can't even think of using 93 unless I want to drive out of my way all of the time. Just seems like a 91 fill up I did last week felt kinda odd. The truck seemed to run a little different. Could have been placebo. This was before the tune and I did the tune to 91 on this tank. Maybe a new tank of 91 today will be different.

Did my normal commute today after flashing from 91 to 87 last night and the truck definitely drove better. Have leftover 92 octane in the tank.
Avg. 18.5 mpgs with 32” tires

Do have a 100rpm fluctuation/surge at stoplight while in D, but I’m sure that will dissipate with time.

Power seemed as good if not better than the 91 tune

Not flashing back to 91 octane likely ever

I agree with this, it felt good right away. But after 4 to 500 miles my MPG went up by 2. It seemed to use alot of gas to hold the 1500 RPM on the highway. Now its pretty efficient.

In mean time, download and install Tactrix drivers and p5flash app. This will help you to identify any issues with your PC, firewall, AV, etc. and resolve them before flashing.

You guys make me want to flash to 87 to see if it is indeed better than the 91 tune.

I hear you, but it surprised the hell out of me when i did. Can't wait to see what it's like after 300 miles. This was the same for me with other versions as well. Ran lowest tune, but higher gas and it was great. For the future I will run 89 octane gas with the 87 tune for everyday situations. Gas quality is different from company to company. Shell and Chevron are definitely better than Kroger/Fred Meyer, but I've heard (and my father swears by it) that Costco has great gas. :notsure:

This is what I’ve done since 1.03. I’ve always run the 87 tune and I run 91 fuel when I can.

Even though it is a little way out of my way here, I always run Costco 92.

Ok question. What is the definition of "tip-in"? I have tried to Google it and didn't get anything good back, other than how to properly tip waiters in deifferent parts of the world. I'm pretty sure it has to do with throttle response, and the delay between hitting the gas, and the vehicle actually beginning to accelerate. But that is as far as I got. Can someone please give me a good description of what "tip-in" means. Is there a "tip-out"?

    Edit: ^Got me

Can anyone else attest to this? Running the 91 tune now. If it is not worth the extra money per gallon I will switch back.

Then I feel like I need way more than what 1.03 87 is giving me for better downshifts.

How do we get v5 anyway. I haven't updated anything since v4. I recently flashed back to 87 trying to get rid of the nasty bump feeling, but it's still there. Any relief with v5?

Tip in is the initial application of throttle from a closed throttle

For tune version 1.04, I tried both 87 and 91 tune. 91 was the clear winner for me.

91 octane gas with 87 tune made the truck smoother, while cruising and during idle. Acceleration seems more "effortless".

91 octane gas with 91 tune had all the benefits I mentioned above, with the bonus of noticeable power gain. So highway driving, there was less downshift, truck just seem lighter on its feet.

I have not tried 1.05 87 tune, so can't speak for that, but I imagine same result as 1.04.

If there is one thing we can all agree on, it is that these trucks are unique, each have their nuances and quirkiness, so you may not yield same results as me.

If you want to know how your truck perform with the 87 tune, only way to know for sure is to flash the tune, drive it for few hundred miles and report your experience. It only costs few minutes of your time to flash the 87 tune.
