DRL harness for SR

So I melted the plastic tabs on my headlights doing the BHLM on my 2016 tacoma SR. I am looking into buying a set of aftermarket headlights, or maybe pro headlights.. I understand that the SR package isn’t wired for DRL, I was wondering if anyone had made a harness for Daytime running lights, or had a wiring diagram of a truck that had the DRL.

 

When you say DRL i'm assuming your are referring to the LED DRL that comes on the TRD models and the limited vs. the turn signal DRL on the SR and SR5. On the SR/SR5 the front amber bulbs are a dual filament type and provide a dim filament marker light and a bright filament for the turn signal and DRL. On the TRDs/Limited the front amber bulb is a signal filament that provides turn signal only and the LED DRL output is reduced when the head lights are on to provide a white marker light. So you'd have to make some significant wiring modifications to use the LED type on your SR. In theory you could disable your DRL so the amber lights only provide a turn signal, run the marker light wire to the dim input on the LED DRL and wire and ignition switched power to the LED DRL high output. Also you would probably need a relay to disconnect the DRL high input to the LED DRL when the head lights/tail lights are on or they may not dim. I think that's as close as you could get without swapping out major harness and the BCM. I have attached relevant diagrams.

Do you know if they have a diagram of the SR5 with the wires that would be used for the LED DRLS but aren’t because it’s halogen? The wires gotta be there but I’m not sure how to tell what wires would originally go to that plug

 

Below are the colors for each side but I don’t think they are all wired for them as they used different setups. Some here have looked but I don’t think anyone has found them on a SR or SR5.

Left side would be:
White/black
Green
Pink

Right side would be:
White/black
Green
Blue

 

we have a dtrl module for second gens, i recently pulled mine to put in a smart tap but here is a pic of what they look like, it plugs into your flasher relay by your knee

Interesting, my 2018 SR has DRL written right in the light switch to turn on drl

 

I’m trying to figure out which wires to hook a resistor to for switchbacks

 

Turn/DTRL wire. You could place it inside the cab so the splice corrodes less, just make sure it's placed against the metal so the resistors dissipate the heat efficiently.

 

Anyone have an idea on which wire to splice into for that's the DRL only to write in raptor lights so they run with the drl. I've seen people tap into the side marker but you have to have the fog lights on at lease to run the lights but didn't want to go that route if I didnt have too

 

What tab did you melt?? I plan on doing the BHLM, I want to make sure I dont make the same mistake

 

I haven't done anything yet when I do it I'll post pics and label everything

 

These H14 and H15 spots will flash when TURN is selected.

 

How did it work out? I have a 2018 SR. I picked up a set of TRD headlights with LED DRL,now I'm not sure if they will work.
