Does anyone have a good shop to recommend for a supercharger install? I’m in Sacramento but will travel for a good mechanic to do the work. I bought the S/C kit awhile ago and it’s been sitting in my garage for too long now. Maita quoted me around $3500 to do the install which I thought was incredibly expensive.

Depends. Is it a TRD supercharger or a Magnussen? The reason I ask is, and I’m sure you know this, the Magnussen uses a piggyback programmer to manipulate the afr. Whereas the TRD is a full ECU reflash that requires a Toyota Techstream.

    Those are @SCSPerformance F5s.
Local company that makes some dope wheels for Tacomas. You’ll definitely see them on a lot of rigs in the area. And the owner Vin is the man!

Thanks for the correction. I got my center caps off and they look really similar to those.

White on White looks good either way.

I believe the POS killed himself. To bad he didn't do that BEFORE he shot the officer.

It’s a Magnussen, but I think they both use a reflash. As far as i know, Magnussen just put their stamp on the TRD S/C - everything is the same except for the software. I would get the Toyota reflash done at the dealership after the install. I’ve heard some negative stuff about the Magnussen reflash having problems.

I had my Magnussen S/C installed by Shaffer's Off Road in Alameda. They had it done in two days. They ran into a problem with the Bully Dog programming, but we're able to call them directly and get it fixed. Highly recommend the shop if you're willing to make the drive.

Magnussen isn’t a reflash. They use a programmer called Bully Dog. It’s just like many others that haven’t “cracked” the Toyota code, they “translate” the afr signals to the ECU, effectively tricking it to run either rich or lean. While Magnussen is the actual manufacturer of the hardware, ie supercharger unit etc, they do not reflash the ECU like Toyota does. When you buy the TRD unit it comes with a “code” for the Techstream to download and reflash your ECU. The reflash is a complete rewrite of your ECU.

There is an entire sub forum that has all this information.

You can download Magnussen’s installation instruction manual for free from their website. They go into great detail on the complexity of the program install on the Bully Dog programmer. It’s no surprise that any shop had difficulty with it. I would go so far as to recommend having those floating around the ol toolbox as a “just in case”.

Mike is a solid dude and recommending Shaffer’s Off-road is highly recommended. Super rad dude.

Not sure if you’ve seen all the steps to install. But if you or a mechanic may benefit from this if it’s not in your kit already. http://www.lcengineering.com/LCInstructions/7015240_TRDSUPERCHARGER1GR.pdf

This ^. Unfortunately it’s not CARB approved from what I last read. The Bully Dog is CARB approved.
