It’s been a few hundred miles now and I’m happy to say the idle to 2k sluggishness is all but gone. I still get a “surge” around 3.5k but that’s mainly the VVT-i kicking in... no complains there as I feel that’s the way these variable valve engines act. What I was looking for the most is the early sluggishness going away and this latest update has done wonders for that. I as well can say the truck is more pleasing to drive and I fell like I don’t have to fight it as much from idle at a dead stop. Feels a bit more peppy now too as there’s good power through the full range now.

@all the guys in the Bangor, Maine area. Downeast is willing to help out. They took my truck in today, and fudged around with it for 2 hours with their tech in the line, finding ways to get by the TSB not listing my truck anymore. So, for those of you who were struggling to get them to do it, go talk to them, and remember, they're actually a helpful dealer and will fight for ya, so don't be a dick about it, and they'll do it if physically possible. Techstream wouldn't even let them download it for my truck, so they called the field tech in Boston who guided them on it.

This brings up an interesting point. My dealer (Larry Miller Boulder Toyota) is also willing to go above and beyond to help the customer. They as well mentioned that Toyota (in regards to TechStream and TSB's) is really picky and the service techs have to get the update to show up on their machines. They had to run a few TSB's to eventually come up with one that showed the update for my truck. Be patient, read through the recent threads, have the multiple TSB's handy, and if you have a quality service group, they will work with you. Keep in mind that these service departments rely on the surveys they send to customers so it would behoove them to deliver a good customer service experience.

Years ago, while on a traveling Rugby Team, I got into a huge, old west style bar room brawl in Chilliwack B.C.
Is there still a club there called like Area 51? It was alien themed.

No dice at Adams Toyota in Lee's Summit, MO. Asked them to perform a health check on my truck and they said they pulled the VIN and nothing came up as needed. Tried explaining via the calibration ID and no go. If Toyotas system doesn't show it via the VIN they won't do it.

I downloaded the techstream app in the OP but the key doesn't seem to be working. Anytime I try to open the .cuw files it tells me that it cannot open unless techstream is registered. Any info on how to get this sorted?

Open Road Toyota Peace Arch in Surrey, B.C Canada did the TSB 0058-18 with no test drive as I mentioned it wasn’t always able to be reproduced. After update to 4B13 the major difference I noticed was the shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear. I didn’t have an issue before as I was aware of getting it in the sweet zone. Shifts are smoother and need less finessing after update

Well I went to get this TSB done today just to be told that it doesn't apply to my truck.

They said there is NO TSB for the manual trans, only the auto, and it can't be applied to my truck.

    Advice?

    Edit: I gave them TSB-0058-18 Rev 1

Using that TSB with TSB-0125-18 should get you there since the applied software is the same.

Otherwise, I'm sure a TW'er can help you out at a meet up?

I talked with all the guys at the dealership. They said they'd be happy to do it but can't find a single thing that covers the manuals.

    What's the difference between 0125-18 and 0058-18?

The TSB 0058-18 says 6AT I believe but if you look on page 3 of TSB it has a calibration ID *****4B12***** that refers to a MT the new calibration ID is *****4B13***** that is what I showed to service advisor before they took a look at my truck. That ID is for 2016-2017

Agreed... use this one. They had difficulties pulling the TSB for my manual with the previous one mentioned that only calls out AT's. This one that says "surge with steering" is the one that went through for me at the dealer.

Adding my 2 cents. Went to a dealer in Northern NJ for my 5K inspection and brought the TSB 0062-18. He was not aware of that one(off to a bad start) but I told them the truck feels sluggish, hunts for gears and down shifts a lot. He said they would test drive and I wasn't to hopeful. Sure enough he called and they agreed but said the 0062-18 wasn't the right TSB so they reflashed with the 0058-18. As others noted it feels like a new truck. Much more responsible and feels even better than driving with the ECT prior to the update.

Glad to see your dealer did the update for you but you posted in the manual transmission software update thread.
